Article Summary and Reflection
INTASC Principle Standard: Principle #3: The teacher understands how students
differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are
adapted to diverse learners.
Date: 2/27/20

Summary:

In the journal “Perceptions of Using Assistive Technology for Students with

Disabilities in the Classroom” by Areej Ahmed they discuss the importance of assistive

technology. They did a study to determine education professionals' opinions regarding

the use of assistive technology that discovered the opinions that discovered what

people think and what they practice. It showed that there was a strong connection and

the viewpoints of how assistive technology shapes a child with disability and their

experience through education. The journal stated how educators should acknowledge

the importance between the technologies in the classroom to make create the best

outcome for students with disability in the classroom environment.

Reflection:

As I read the article I agreed with the writer how assistive technology was

researched. Throughout my experience of becoming a teacher I have been in a special

education classroom and assistive technology is a big aspect in the classroom and

helps each student academically. I’ve seen how assistive technology helps in

classrooms ranging from multiple things like reading pens, speech generating devices

and listening systems. I agree that educators should be understand the relationship and
how it shapes the education experience because it helps with fitting the need for student

with disabilities. This relates to my future as a teacher because I am getting my degree

with special education, which I will be allowed to teach students with disabilities. I

understand the importance and relate that assistive technology helps students with

disabilities achieve their academics in my future class. I want to be able to incorporate

assistive technology to give my students the best learning outcome.
