Objectives
To evaluate the microshear bond strength (µSBS) and nanoleakage (NL) of universal adhesives applied as self-etch/core buildup systems with or
without self-cure activator (SCA) and different curing protocols in the immediate time (IM) and after 6-month (6m) water storage.

Methods
Middle dentin of 55 extracted molars was used (n=5). Specimens were randomly assigned to: All-Bond Universal/Core Flo DC [ABU/CFD] (no SCA
recommended), Clearfil Universal Bond/Clearfil DC Core Plus [CFU/CDC], Prime&Bond Elect/ FluoroCore 2+ [PBE/FLC], and One Coat 7
Universal/ ParaCore [OCU/PC]. Clearfil SE Bond/Clearfil DC Core Plus [CSE/CDC] was used as control. For CFU/CDC, PBE/FLC and OCU/PC,
three curing protocols were used: light-cure [LC], dual-cure [DC] and self-cure [SC] mode. All adhesives were used as self-etch adhesives. Data
from µSBS and NL were analyzed separately using two-way ANOVA (adhesive/composite build-up system vs. longevity) and Tukey’s test (α =
0.05).

Results
Table 1. Mean and standard deviation of microshear bond strength (MPa) to dentin Table 2. Mean and standard deviation of nanoleakage (NL) to dentin for each
for each experimental condition (*,**) experimental condition (*,**)

Conclusion
For self-etch universal adhesives, the addition of a self-cured activator and different curing protocols influenced µSBS and NL,
but this influence was material dependent.
