DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 9

CONTENT STANDARD – The learner demonstrates understanding of ratio and proportion.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD – The learner is able to demonsttrate knowledge and skills in verifying and
applying ratio and proportion.

LEARNING COMPETENCY – The learner understands the importance of ratio and proportion.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
a. Determine the ratio of objects.
b. Find the equivalent of the ratio.
c. Appreciate the significance of ratio and proportion in real-life situation.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Ratio and Proportion
B. Reference: BEAM Third Year Module 15 (TG)
http://lrmds.depedldn.com/DOWNLOAD/BEAM_TG_GR_9_MODULE_15
_MATHEMAT.PDF
C. Instructional Materials: Visual Aids, Calculator, T.V

III. METHODOLOGY
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. DAILY ROUTINE
a. Opening Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Classroom Management
d. Checking of Attendance

B. ACTIVITY
Before we start our discussion, I will
Group the class into 3 groups. I will play a
video to you and identify what is
asked and try to solve the
problem and choose one of the
given formula and after our
discussion, we will know who’s
group got the correct answer.

C. ANALYSIS
First, I have a question. By the word
itself, what is Proportion?
Proportion is the relation to one part
to another or Balance.
Very good!

Proportion is a statement of equality

between two ratios.
And by speaking of ratio.

Ratio is a comparison of two quantities

This is an example of ratio.

1:2 and it is read as 1 is to 2.

3:4
Give some examples of another ratio.
4:5
5:6

Now class, this is an example of

proportion.

1:2 = 5:10

We will determine first the part of this

proportion.

We have means and extremes

What do you think means of a proportion

Means is the total average of the
is?
whole.

Means of a proportion are the two inner

quantities in a proportion.

So what do you think are the means? 2 and 5

Very good!

And what do you think of extremes of a

proportion? The two numbers outside.

Good thinking!

The extremes of a proportion are the two

outer quantities of a proportion.

Now, what are the extremes of this

proportion? 1 and 10

Very good!

Example:
3:4 = 12:16

What are the means?

4 and 12
Raise your hands.

3 and 16
How about the extremes?

So how can we say that the ratios are

equal? Any ideas? No, ma’am.

For us to determine if the ratios are

equal, we multiply first the means. And
then the extremes. Is the product of the
means and extremes are the same so the
ratios are equal.

3:4 = 12:16 Means

Who wants to try 4*12 = 48

Extremes
3*16 = 48

So are the ratios equal?

Yes ma’am!

If we use variables like a:b = x:y then

bx = ay

we can also try fraction in using

proportion.

The example 3:4 = 12:16, we can write it

3 12
as = just make sure that you write
4 16
the same format.

3 is to 4, is equal to,
12 is to 16

And then we can cross multiply the two if

they are equal.

D. ABSTRACTION
Okay class, what are the two inner
quantities of a proportion? Means!

How about the outer quantities of a

proportion? Extremes!

Remember class the video I showed you?

Yes Ma’am

That is a good example of doing it in real

life. Just make sure that you use the
correct sequence when you write the
ratios.
Did you understand class? Yes ma’am

Now let’s see who’s group got the right

answer.

E. APPLICATION
Now try to answer the following
proportion if they are equal or not. Not equal

1) 5:6 = 25:40 Equal

2) 4:6 = 24:36 Equal

3) 2:4 = 4:8 Equal

4) 6:3 = 48:24 Not equal

5) 9:8 = 5:4

IV . EVALUATION

Groupings (same group). You will answer the questions by using Kahoot.

And we will see who’s team will win.

1. What is the value of n will make this a proportion?
(6:15 and n:25)
Answer: N=10
2. Find whether each statement is a proportion or not?
(4/3 and 20/18)
Answer: Not Proportion
3. It is the inner quantities of a proportion.
Answer: Means
4. It is the outer quantities of a proportion.
Answer: Extremes
5. Is a comparison of two quantities.
Answer: Ratio
6. It is statement of equality betwween two ratios.
Answer: Proportion
7. (4:3=16:12) The ratios are proportion. True or False
Answer: True
8. (2:13=18:117) The ratios are proportion. True or False
Answer:True
9. Mix 3L water 4 lemons to make lemonade. How may liters of water are
mixed with 8 lemons.
