Four C’s Model of Audience

Dimensions of Personality
DIMENSIONS OF PERSONALITY

• Two dimensions:
1. The first dimension is Change or maintain status quo :
a. People who are interested in “ changing the status quo”.
b. Those who believe in “maintaining status quo”.
2. The second dimension involve people:
a. Who tends to work alone.
b. Who tends to work in a group.
Four C’s Model
Four Types of Audience

1. Audience 1 – Comptroller
Prominent traits are :
a. Not “ movers and shakers”
b. Slow to decide
c. Does not like change
d. Interested in facts and figures
To persuade :
a. Use matter-of-fact tone
b. Use info, methods, data
c. Emphasize procedures, synthesis and traditions.
d. Offer multiple options.
2. Audience 2 - Commander
a. Likes actions and results.
b. Bases decision for change on results, not actions.
c. Decisive, efficient and dominating.

To persuade:
a. Adopt efficient &result- oriented strategy.
b. Prepare summary with conclusion and recommendations.
3. Audience 3 – Collaborator
a. Also called “ people’s person”
b. Always part of team
c. Wants no change
d. Less interested in details.
e. Avoid conflict and risk.
To persuade
a. Adopt trusting and none threating- strategy.
b. Backup argument with organizational policies and goals.
c. Support your argument with precedence.
4.Audience 4 – Crusader
a. Also called “ Cheerleader”.
b. Enthusiastic and Idealistic.
c. Creative and Eager to change as per his /her own ideals.
d. Being Idealistic, sometimes prejudiced.
To persuade:
a. Be diplomatic with enthusiastic tone.
b. Emphasize ideals of the boss.
c. Tie your own ideals with that of the boss.
d. Have multiple options.
e. Persuade by value of the idea itself.
