Prestressed Concrete

1 (a) What are the different advantage of prestressed


concrete.

(b) Enumerate the application of pressfressed concrete


in construction industries.

2 (a) Define prestressing system.

(b) Write down the basic difference between


prestressing and post tensioning.

3 A prestressed concrete beam 200mm wide and 300mm


deep is used over an effective span of 6m to supported an
imposed load of 4Kn/m. The density of concrete is
24KN/m3. At the quartor span of section of beam find the
magnitude of,
(i) The concentric prestressing force for zero fibre
stress at the soffit when the beam in fully loaded
and

(ii) The eccentric prestressing force located 100mm


from the bottom of the beam which would nullify
the bottom fibre stress due to loading.

4 Define ultimate shear resistance of prestressed concrete

member also describe.

(a) Failure due to web shear cracks

(b) Failure due to flexure shear cracks

5 A cross section of pre stressed concrete beam is


rectangular with a width of 350mm and overall depth of
700mm. The presstressing force of 180KN acts at an
eccentricity of 190mm. If the bending and twisting
moments at the section are 80 and 20 KN respectively,
calculate the maximum permissible tensile stress at the
section.

6 Explain the effect of axial deformation and tertiary


moments in prestressed indetermatate structure. Describe
with neat diagram.
7 (a) Write down the criteria of design of proportion
concrete pipes.

(b) Write down the economic dimensional properation


of presstress circular tanks also show the neat sketch of
shapes of prestressed circular tank.

8 (a) The mean weekly sales of soap bars in department stores


was 14.3 bars per stone. After an advertising campaign the
mean weekly sales in 22 stores for a typical week
increased to 153.7 and showed a standard deviation of 17.2
was the advertising campaign successful.

(Give tabulated value of t for 21 df, at 5% level of


significance for right tailed test = 1.72)

(b) The demand for a particular spare part in a factory was


found to vary from day to day in a sample study the
