Activity
1. Students will be introduced to new words in the beginning of the week. I will
explain to students that all the words we learn make up sentences, and these
words all have meaning. I will arrange the news words on the whiteboard for the
entire class to see, and I will arrange these words by matching the first letter in
the word under the matching letter in the alphabet.

2. I will use the smartboard to organize the words by related groups for a better
understanding of the material. I will hand out sheets to students with the same
words that is on the smartboard so we can work together as I introduce new
words. I will introduce basic words at first, then by mid-week we will advance to
words that will further the academic language skills of the students.

3. For this lesson, students will work independently. Each day, when we learn new
words, we will discuss the meaning of the word. Students will use an
Chromebooks to access abcya and will use a series of words to identify word
families. Students will drag the appropriate letters on the refrigerator on the tool.
When students drag the letters, the word will be sounded out for them. Students
will discern that spoken words are represented in written language by the order of
letters.

4. Students will use graphemes to associate the long and short vowel sounds and
make common spelling words using the major vowels AEIOU. Students will read
and write fifteen concrete words such as hot, table, spoon.

5. Students will use the program to drag upper case letters and lower-case letters
to form words and understand that words used in the beginning of a sentence and
the first letter of their names starts with an upper-case letter. Students will
identify, recognize, and name all upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet as
they drag the letters on the refrigerator.

6. Students will also use the program to read and write their names by illustrating
their understanding of the organization of print. When prompted, students will
drag the appropriate shape (square, circle etc.) to the refrigerator. This program
will enable me to see what each student is doing on my laptop and assess and
make changes accordingly. The goal for this lesson is to build the students’
vocabulary, word recognition, identify shapes, and explain what they have
written.
