INTRODUCCTION

In the present report we will be talking about the field visit to the project
Mejoramiento y Ampliación Del Sistema de Agua Potable de la Ciudad de
Nueva Guinea, which is in the process of being executed. During this visit, a
series of interviews was conducted with the technical staff that is working on the
project; the interviews are composed of a series of questions, which will be
presented in said report.

To carry out the practice, it was necessary to mobilize the students to the Sardina
River and to the areas of the Nueva Guinea city, where the technical staff are
located.

The aforementioned project strengthen the service of drinking water and public
sanitation for the families of the Nueva Guinea City, the project is important
because it will bring the vital liquid to families that previously did not reach them.
That is why this visit motivated the students of Civil Engineering as this will obtain
new knowledge of the Civil Engineering career in the field, and how to deal with
problems that are seen and thus give them a solution.
OBJECTIVES

General:

 Apply an interview with a series of questions related to the project of

Improvement and expansion of the drinking water system in the urban area
and in the sardine river of the municipality of Nueva Guinea.

Specific:

 Enrich knowledge in the areas of hydrology, sanitary engineering and

English.

 Expose the results in English using technical vocabulary.

DEVELOPING

List of questions:

1) How much is the total value of project and who finances the
projects?

The project is financed by the international European Bank with an alliance

with the Government of Nicaragua, the total cost of the project is 5,760,000
dollars.

2) How long is the duration of the potable water project?

The project is contemplated for a period of 18 months, depending on the

climatic, financial variants and this may extend the stipulated period.

3) What type of technical staff do you have for the construction of the
project?

The technical work team is comprised of an External Supervision from

Spain, an Internal Supervision which is composed of the Supervising
Engineer plus a technical team from Managua, within the key personnel are
the Contractor, Resident Engineer, Manager, Prosecutors, Construction
Master and Operators of machinery, within the personnel of External
Supervision are the Supervisors of the INE, Manager of the Supervision and
Specialist who come to specific interventions.

4) How much the storage capacity of the dam that is being built in the
Sardina River?

The storage capacity that is sought is an amount of 2700m 3.

5) What is the diameter of the pipeline?

In the distribution networks there are pipes with a diameter of 2 inches up 12

inches. In the line of conduction one has HF pipe of 14 inches and in the line
of adduction it has a line of 12 inches of PVC pipe.

6) Can you please explain how the water will be distributed?

From the uptake to the treatment plant will be distributed by means or pumping,
equally from the treatment plant to tanks, and the distribution of tanks to distribution
networks will be gravity.
7) How much is the pumping capacity of the system (lts/s) to supply
the population?

Pumping capacity is the capacity of the plant which is from 1000 lts/s.

8) What hygienic measures will be applied for water purification?

Raw water passes through a process, in which sediments are retained

through the sedimenters; a chemical called a floclar agent is generated to
the water to generate the union of the sediments, then passes through a
process by which aluminum sulfate is applied to subsequently apply sodium
hypochlorite.

9) What are the most suitable types of equipment for this type of
construction?

The most suitable equipment is excavators, trucks, loaders, among other

important equipment.

10) When will the first water tests be done?

The tests that are being made are hydrostatic compact and these are being
carried out.

11) What type of concrete do they use for the construction of the dam,
and what is their resistance?

The dam will be built with a cyclopic concrete which has very good
resistance for the case of this type of construction.

12) The dam has a dump, what are its dimensions?

The dam isn´t going to landmark.

13) What is the main function of the hydraulic jump in the dam?

The main function of the hydraulic jump is to capture the water to

subsequently be stored in the dam.

14) Which mathematical method do you use for the distribution of the
drinking water system in the area?

Mathematical method is to make a series of iterations until you get the data
that will be used.
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, it is said that the visit to the project to improve and expand the
drinking water system in the urban area of the Nueva Guinea City was very
important for the career, since thanks to this the interview was applied and a
series of questions related to the drinking water project.

Another important point is that it was possible to enrich even more the
knowledge in the areas of hydrology, sanitary engineering and English
which are of vital importance for the training as future professional and also
to know the procedures that are carried out when a work of this magnitude
is executed and thus be able to face the circumstances and problems that
arise and to be able to give them a solution.
