AXLE STANDS

RATED CAPACITY

The capacity rated by the manufacturer as the maximum load is the maximum load that can be
supported by a single vehicle support stand at all times unless otherwise stated by the
manufacturer.

THOROUGH EXAMINATION

This examination must be carried out with the axle stand in a reasonably clean condition and in
adequate lighting and should encompass the following;

1. Structural defects; signs of damage, distortion or deformation of the supporting members,

bracing, tie bars and lateral stiffening members. Missing structural members. Cracked welds.
Distorted, loose or missing bolts and fixings. Missing locking devices and washers, in particular
spring and taper washers. The overall condition of the structure should be sound with no signs
of corrosion.
2. With ratchet type axle stands all teeth on the ratchet rack and pinion must be thoroughly
checked for wear and damage.
3. In the case of a screw type axle stand the screw thread should be inspected for damage and the
locking collar should be checked to ensure it operates correctly
4. In the case of a pin type axle stand the pin should be checked to ensure it is an adequate pin
(not a random bolt)
