TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT 2

In order to properly plan for emerging technology, the user and the implementer must

understand what emerging technology means. According to Fulton and Honey (2002), emerging

technologies are "faster, cheaper, and more powerful" than current technologies. They warn

against the oversimplification of what emerging technologies are. Emerging technologies are

advancements that will have an impact over the next 5-10 years.

The requestor of the information must provide as much information as possible so that

the technology team can make the best decision. For that communication to happen, the

technology department must provide the requestor with an easy to use form that will provide

enough information for the technology team to start researching the desired materials. The

technology department may not be experts in the field of study that the requestor is. Therefore,

the decision-makers in the technology department need the right information from the end-users.

End users are not likely to understand the full cost of implementation. If the two departments

cannot communicate well, then the project itself is likely to fail. The communication starts with

the proper form.
