Scripture Reading:
Does God Care?
Scripture Teaching concerning the Character of God

1 John 4:8 "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

Psa 25:8 "Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way."

God’s Goodness is expressed in Creation

Gen 1:31 "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the
evening and the morning were the sixth day."

Though Tarnished by sin, Nature still bears evidence of His Love

Psa 33:5 "He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the
LORD."

Though Alienated by sin, God still feels for Fallen Man

Jer 31:3 "The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an
everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."

An Act of God’s supreme love toward man

1 John 4:9 "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only
begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him."

“Love is the ‘Alpha and Omega’ of redemption, the love of God to man. Read it in the
journey of the Mediator from heaven to earth! Read it in His pilgrimage through the land of
sorrow! Behold Him ‘nailed to the shameful tree!’ See the blood and water gushing from
His side! Hear the sound of the waterspouts, as the floods of wrath roll over Him! Then ask
the reason.
The answer is: ‘God is love’.” – Evangelistic Cyclopedia, p 290-291

The gospel message is extended to all

Rom 10:12-13 "For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord
over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved."

God patiently awaits our response

2 Pet 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is
longsuffering to us- ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to
repentance."

The Lord’s promise to those who return to Him ...

Hosea 14:4 "I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned
away from him." (Also Jer 3:12)

Such a step will lead into an intimate fellowship with Himself

1 John 3:1 "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should
be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."

God’s goodness to His children are without limits

Rom 8:32 "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he
not with him also freely give us all things?"

Such goodness is reliable for all time

Psa 42:8 "Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night
his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life."

Isa 54:10 "For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall
not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD
that hath mercy on thee."

God’s loving control over all the circumstances of our lives

Rom 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to
them who are the called according to his purpose."

2 Cor 9:8 "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having
all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:"

With such assurances, we may rest in His promises

Psa 55:22 "Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never
suffer the righteous to be moved."

“If you tell your troubles to God, you put them into the grave: they will never rise again when
you have committed them to Him. If you roll your burden anywhere else, it will roll back
again, like the stone of Sisyphus.” – C.H. Spurgeon

A More Striking Manifestation of God’s goodness toward His children in the future

1 Cor 2:9 "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into
the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

“The biggest thing with which the mind can cope is the infinite love of God; and all our
sanctified powers, and all the ministries of holy fellowship, and all the exploration of
eternity will never reach a limit in its unsearchable wealth. The biggest thing you and I will
ever know is the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Dr J.H.Jowett
