1. What culture (habits, attitudes, values) of the poor keep them in poverty? Support with one or more
For me, there is no enough reason to tell that culture, habits, attitudes and values of the poor are
the only things that kept them from poverty but also the lack of opportunities for them. Also I
think what separated poor people from rich people are their own worldwviews. But if I will base
it from the movie, I think what kept the family from poverty is that they settled to what they
already have. They only looked for jobs which are short term, which I can compare to Filipino
saying “isang kayod, isang tuka” that means that the income they got is only good for one day, it
cannot support their other expenses and the only solution they thought of is to fraud other people.
2. What culture (habits, attitudes, values) of the rich distance them from the poor and maintain social
The reason why rich are distant to the poor is because of the “social levels”. Rich people are not
aware of the state and welfare of the poor because they are not experiencing it. Based from the
movie, the Park Family was focused on their selves. It was so easy for them to remove people
from their surroundings, or I must say they exercise throw-away culture. It was so easy for them
to fire their driver and their maid without letting them explaining themselves.
3. What can be done to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor? (Give some practical and doable
suggestion/s)
First of all, the “bridge” between the rich and poor was supposed to be not a thing. We are the
ones who made the social levels to this society, that in the first place there should be none. Some
people think that being rich is what will give them the privilege to become powerful over other
people especially the poor. But since it is already there, let’s try to help each other progress in this
society. We cannot remove the fact that rich people are already rich, and that some poor are
already poor. But let us at least treat each other with the same level of morals and respect.
