Statement of Purpose of
Tanisha Tabassum Sayka Khan

I am Tanisha Tabassum Sayka Khan and I have completed my Bachelor degree in Pharmacy
from BRAC University, which is a reputed university of Bangladesh. I am particularly interested
in pursuing Master’s in Pharmacology and Toxicology as this area offers wide scope of research
opportunities to develop efficacious therapeutic cures against several diseases. Moreover, this
program will enhance my ability to develop a comprehensive understanding on the therapeutic
value and potential toxicity of chemical agents on biological systems. When a compound is
identified to have therapeutic properties, it needs to undergo further investigation for its toxic
effects, contraindications, and its target site in the body which involves both in vitro and in vivo
examination on research models. Such laboratory work that could significantly contribute to
improve patient’s health is an arena that developed my interest to carry out research in this area.
In my opinion, this field of study also widens the scope of building a successful career as a
researcher and teacher.
Through this program, I wish to gain molecular knowledge to discover new structures or modify
the existing drug entities of therapeutic concern. Such activity will hopefully bring about a
significant breakthrough in drug therapy followed by enhanced skills in drug discovery and will
eventually contribute in the development of the health research sector. I, hereby, desire to play an
important role for the society which is only possible the through enrichment of my skills and
understanding in my area of study so that either as an academician or researcher, I can fulfill my
responsibility as a health care provider towards the people.
The research-based studies associated to pharmacology and toxicology will provide a much
broader opportunity to enrich both my knowledge and enthusiasm on the area of emphasis that I
have intended to apply. The combination of these disciplines will catalyze my objectives of
widening my understanding on cause and effect relationship for diseases thereby allowing me to
implement my learning in finding the solution and hence, fulfill the ultimate aim of contributing
to health care benefits. Also, the excitement of coming up with a successful finding through a lot
of trial and error method helps in bringing precision and expertise in the respective work and
these experiences will help to identify the intricacies of the subject. It is very important for a
health care professional either working for scientific community or as an academician to
strengthen his/her foundation on a career the person wants to pursue. So, given the chance, I
would like to express my enthusiasm towards this course.
My undergraduate research project titled “Design of Experiment in Practice: Formulation Design
and Optimization of Sustained Release Tablet Dosage Form of Ketorolac” was based on
designing the formulation of a sustained release tablet dosage form of Ketorolac Tromethamine
with the purpose of increasing patient compliance by reducing the dosing frequency as well as
decrease the risk of gastrointestinal side effects associated with frequent administration of the
conventional dosage form of Ketorolac that is commercially available. I am also currently

engaged in doing an extensive research work on method development and validation of

Ketorolac using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Also, I have a publication
in European Journal of Toxicological Sciences on a review article entitled "Impact of cadmium
exposure on human health with a focus on Bangladesh.” Presently, I am working as a Teaching
assistant in the Department of Pharmacy of BRAC University.
I have chosen University of ----------- for my graduate study because it is a leading and well-
reputed university. Moreover, it is renowned for its excellent faculty members and laboratory
facilities. I sincerely believe that my study at your university shall be an ideal place for me to
widen my knowledge in pursuing a research or academic career in the field of Pharmacology and
Toxicology. Therefore, I hope to be given a fair chance to realize my objective by granting
admission at your university.
