In conclusion, we can conclude that our experiment was successful as we are able to determine

the optimum concentration of Citrus limon (lemon) and Citrus aurantiifolia (lime) that can act as
ant repellent specifically Paratrechina longicornis. Generally, there are chemicals named d-
limonene contains in the lemon and lime peels that can be extracted to produce an ant repellent.
After obtaining d-limonene from both lemon and lime peels that had been dried in the oven and
through simple distillation, the d-limonene was diluted using distilled water to form various
concentration of stock solution starting with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. Then, we obtained
our results by testing on three different sugar crackers which, one of the sugar crackers was
sprayed with lemon extract, one sprayed with lime extract and one that not been sprayed which
used as the control result. The test repeated for three times. After all of the stock solution were
tested on ants (Paratrechina longicornis), we can conclude that both Citrus limon (lemon) and
Citrus aurantiifolia (lime) extracts shows the highest repellency effectiveness are at 20% and
25% concentrations. Lastly, the Citrus limon (lemon) is more effective compared to Citrus
aurantiifolia (lime) due to the lower number of ants retain after the food was sprayed with both
extract. The number of ants that retains after 15 minutes using 25% concentration were 12 ants
for Citrus aurantiifolia (lime) and 10 ants for Citrus limon (lemon) and thus, achieving our
goals to retain less that 20 ants for both extract.
