Site Electricity requirement, Drainage and Water supply and Sewage

Treatment Plant requirement.

Electricity requirement –
Ceiling lights (24W), fans (80W), air conditioners (1000W), power sockets (for laptops and other electronic
devices) are required.

Power for sockets and equipment can be taken as 30kW , total to about 70kW (including workshop equipment,
air conditioners, lifts and other heavy load machinery)

Residence- each room will take up 0.5 kWh.

THE POWER CONSUMPTION FOR THE SITE WOULD BE AROUND 2,000 UNITS.

Site drainage and water supply-

Site Drainage is the movement of water to another area away from the site. Site Drainage measures
help prevent the flooding of property, drainage structures, waterways and roadways.

CALCULATING THE AMOUNT OF WATER THE CATCHMENT AREA WILL PRODUCE-

The amount of storm water the catchment will produce can be determined with the following formula.

Q = 2.8 x C x I x A

Q : the design peak runoff rate, or the maximum flow of storm water the system will be designed for (in liters per
second)

C: the runoff coefficient. I: the rainfall intensity at the time of concentration read from the chosen IDF curve;

A: the surface area of the catchment area (in ha (10,000 m2 )

Water required-
Admin block: 45 lit. per head = 45 X 30 = 1,350 lit.

Academic block: 45 lit. per head = 45 X1300 = 58,500 lit.

Hostel block: 90 lit. per head = 90X1000 = 90,000 lit. (excluding water intake in academic block).

Faculty residence block: 80 to 100 litres per head per day = 80 X 550 = 44,000 lit.

Sports complex = 5,00,000 lit.

Cafeteria and food courts: 40 lit. per head = 40 X 500 = 20,000 lit.

Total = 7,20,000 lit.

Sewage Treatment Plant required-

Plant capacity:
Average water supply per day = 7,20,000 lit. = 0.721 mld*

Average sewage generated per day = 85% of supplied water = 0.85*0.721 = 0. 6 mld = 360 kld**

Average sewage generated per hour=360/24=15 cum/hr Peak factor = 3 Design flow capacity (maximum) = 13 x
3=45 cum/hr

*mld – Million liter per day

**kld – Kilo Liter per day

Sizes-
Collection pit =14 m2.

Bar screen = 2.5 m2.

Aeration tank = 18 m2.

100 m2 area is required.
