Dear parents/carers,

In our English class, we’re now starting Unit 5 of Super Safari. The topic of the unit is
Fruit and vegetables. We’re learning how to answer a question to identify which fruit
and vegetables your child likes and dislikes. Your child is continuing to learn English
through songs, chants, stories, games and listening and speaking activities.

In this unit, your child will learn:

 To name fruit and vegetables: potatoes, pineapple, carrots, tomatoes,

watermelon, bananas
 To ask about fruit and vegetables and give short answers: Do you like (bananas)?
Yes, I do./No, I don’t.
 To join in with a chant
 To follow instructions and act out a story
 To join in with a song about fruit and vegetables and likes/dislikes
 To listen to and follow a picture story
 To appreciate the value of healthy eating shown in the story
 To categorise foods (fruit or vegetable)
 To reflect on his/her learning

To help your child progress, you can do the following:

- Use food at home to practise key words from the unit: potatoes, pineapple, carrots,
tomatoes, watermelon, bananas. Ask Is it a (banana)? Your child answers Yes it is./No, it
isn’t.

- Practise asking about your child’s likes and dislikes: Do you like (tomatoes)? He/She
answers: Yes, I do./No, I don’t.

- Ask your child to arrange the food in your fridge or cupboard into two categories, fruit
and vegetables.

We hope your child is having fun using Super Safari and enjoying learning lots of new
language!
