Monday’s Lesson Breakdown
TEK- Make inferences and use evidence to support
understanding;
5E- Engage
Lesson Target- I can complete a webquest and use
context clues to determine different social issues.
Sped Accommodation- First write down 1 social issue
you can think of and turn it in on google classroom.
Then instead of going through all 10 websites, you can
choose 5 to look through. Still write them down in a
google doc and submit to google classroom.
Activity- Write down 3 social issues and turn in on
google classroom. Complete the social issues webquest
and write down the social issue from each article.

Lesson Target- I can read my book and evaluate
details to understand social issues being discussed.
Sped Accommodation- Read the first 6 pages of Can I
Touch Your Hair, which include the poems, The Poem
Project, Writing Partner, Shoes and Shopping With Dad.
Write down 1 social issue you noticed and turn it in on
google classroom. After reading, write a 1-3 sentence
reflection on your first thoughts of the book.
Activity- Read pages 1-16 of Dream Big and write down
2 social issues you noticed. Then write a 3-5 sentence
reflection on your first thoughts of the book. Turn both
assignments in on google classroom

Wednesday’s Lesson Breakdown

5E- Explain
Lesson Target- I can evaluate a scene in my book and
pay attention to emotion in order to better understand
the social issue.
Sped Accommodation- Read the poems, Hair, Strands,
Beach Day and Beach. Now, think about a poem you
read and feel strongly about. Think about the social
issue the scene represents. Submit a flipgrid and tell me
what you are learning about the issue from the poem
you chose. Also, explain to me why the social issue you
chose is important.
Activity- Read pages 17-32 of Dream Big. Now think
about a scene you feel strongly about. Write down the
social issue that scene represents and submit it on
google classroom. Lastly, submit a flipgrid, and tell me
what you are learning about the social issue from the
scene you selected. Also, explain to me why the social
issue you focused on is important.

Lesson Target- I can re-read my book in order to
better understand why the author would include the
social issue in the text.
Sped Accommodation - Out of all the poems you read,
re-read your favorite one. Then submit a flipgrid
talking about a social issue you read about, and why the
author would include it in the text.

Activity- Revisit Dream Big and as you read think
about what the author wanted you to take away. Also
pay attention to the social issues and how that affects
the characters decisions. Then pick one social issue
discussed and write a paragraph (3-5 sentences) about
the issue. Talk about why the author included the social
issue in the text and what your biggest takeaway was.
