Information in this document applies to any platform.

GOAL

Remove the card from Safe Mode, perform the necessary diagnosis, and return the card to normal operation.

Affected card is:


8-Port 12Gbps SAS-3 RAID HBA
Codename: Aspen-INT
Avago/LSI Logic MegaRAID SAS 9361-8i PCI Express x8 Gen3

SOLUTION

These steps are to be implemented only at the request of Oracle Support. Otherwise, the implementation of these
steps may lead to data corruption.

STEP 1. Check if your system is in Legacy or UEFI mode.


1.1.1 From ILOM WebGUI

System management -> BIOS -> BIOS Mode entry.

1.1.2 From ILOM CLI

-> ls /System/BIOS/ boot_mode

/System/BIOS
Properties:
boot_mode = UEFI

show can be use instead of ls.

1.3 Directly from system BIOS

STEP 2. Enter the HBA, determine if it is in Safe Mode, and return it


from Safe Mode to operational state.

2,1 Boot Mode: Legacy

2.1.1 Enter the HBA. During the boot of the system you will notice the HBA initializing. Press the key combo to enter the
HBA (CTRL+R).

2.1.2 Navigate to Properties using the CTRL+N combo, and check the Controller Status.

In our example the HBA is Optimal. Proceed to the next step only if the Controller Status is Safe Mode.

2.1.3 Navigate to Ctrl Mgmt, and press the down arrow till the box under BIOS Mode is selected.

2.1.4 Press Enter and select Ignore errors.

2.1.5 Apply.

2.1.6 Now the HBA will ignore all errors and continue booting. Once the work is completed, return the system to the
original setting (Safe Mode on errors).

2.2 Boot Mode: UEFI

2.2.1 Boot to BIOS.

using the F2 (or CTRL+E from the serial keyboard) from the onscreen menu;

using ILOM WebBUI

Navigate to Host Management, select Host Control, set Next Boot Device BIOS, press Save and reset/power on the
system.

using ILOM CLI.

-> show /SYS power_state

/SYS
Properties:
power_state = Off

-> set /HOST/ boot_device=bios


Set 'boot_device' to 'bios'

-> start -script /SYS


Starting /SYS

-> start -script /SP/console

Serial console started. To stop, type ESC (

If the system is on, instead of start -script /SYS you can use reset -script /SYS.

2.2.2 Once in BIOS, navigate to the Advanced menu and select LSI MegaRAID <LSI MegaRAID 9361-8i> Configuration
Utility (the selection does occupy 2 rows).

2.2.3 Check if the HBA is in Safe Mode, by navigating to Controller management and verifying Controller Status.

In our example the HBA is Optimal. Proceed to the next step only if the Controller Status is Safe Mode.

2.2.4 Navigate to Controller Management => Advanced Controller Properties => press arrow down till the option Boot
Mode is visible (2nd page). Press Enter on the option and select Ignore Errors.

2.2.5 Apply the changes and restart the system.

2.2.6 Now the HBA will ignore all errors and continue booting. Once the work is completed, return the system to the
