SHIFT LEVER

1. Shift transfer case into 4L.


2. Remove the floor console as necessary to
access the shifter mechanism. (Refer to 23 -
Body/Interior/CONSOLE, Center - Removal)
3. Disengage the transfer case shift cable from the
shift lever pin and body.

4. Remove the nuts attaching lever assembly (1)


to floorpan and remove assembly (2).
5. Remove the shifter mechanism from the
vehicle.

SHIFT LEVER

1. Position the shift mechanism over the shifter


retaining studs on the floor pan.
2. Install the nuts to hold the shifter mechanism to
the floor pan. Tighten the nuts to 11.9 N·m (105
in.lbs.).

3. Verify that the floor shifter is in the 4L position.


4. Connect the transfer case shift cable to the shift
lever body and pin.
5. Install any floor console components previously
removed. (Refer to 23 -
Body/Interior/CONSOLE, Center - Installation)
6. Check for proper transfer case shifter operation.

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect and isolate battery negative cable.


2. On 4x4 vehicles grasp the transfer case shifter
knob and pull straight up and remove the knob.

3. On manual transmission vehicles, using a trim


stick C-4755 or equivalent, separate the shifter
boot (2) from the console bezel (1).

4. Remove the bolt (3) and remove the manual


transmission shifter (2) from the shifter shaft (1).

5. Position the park brake lever into the full up


position.

NOTE: If necessary, the brake lever can then


be rotated into the full up position
without engaging the park brakes.
6. Using a long wire hook tool (1) or equivalent,
locate the spring end of the park brake clutch.

7. Pull up on the spring end (3) and deactivate the


clutch (1) while pulling up on the brake lever (2).

8. Remove the cup holder or ash receiver (1), if


equipped.
9. Using a trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove
the console bezel (2).

10. Disconnect the electrical connector (1).

11. Remove the four console screws (1).


12. Lift the console (4) up off the clip retainers (3) and remove.

INSTALLATION

1. Position the console (4) over the shifters and brake levers and seat the clips (3) fully.
2. Install the four screws (1).

3. Connect the electrical connector (1).

4. Position the bezel (2) over the shifters and


brake lever and seat the clips fully.
5. Install the cup holder and ash receiver (1), if
equipped.

6. If equipped, position the transfer case shifter


knob onto the shift shaft and seat fully.

7. If equipped, position the manual transmission


shifter handle (2) onto the shift shaft (1) and
install the bolt (3).
8. Tighten the bolt (3) to 33 N·m (24.5 ft. lbs.)

9. Seat the shifter boot (2) onto the console bezel


(1) and seat fully.
10. Connect battery negative cable.
