Why is this area of knowledge and skills important to your country’s development?

Where possible you should refer to data and research that supports your argument.

Zimbabwe currently faces a vast array of industrial degradation. Part of this degradation found
its way into the electrical industry and has led to a decline in the energy sector’s ability to power
the nation as a whole. Surprisingly this trend is not only affecting Zimbabwe alone but most of
the countries in the SADC region for example, our neighbor, South Africa. A solution is needed
to curb this rising need and better the country’s rotting electrical infrastructure. Learning how to
harness renewable energy might be the key to building new power stations that have a better
impact on the environment than the currently famous coal powered stations. Most of these power
stations have surpassed their rated lifespan. “Munyati Power Station was built in 1946 with an
installed capacity of 120MW, Harare Power Station was installed in 1947 with capacity to
generate 75 MW now it has shut down waiting re powering and Bulawayo Power Station
commissioned between 1947 with an installed capacity of 120 megawatts,” Chizengeya said in a
quote from New Zimbabwe. I have a wish to open up a power plant in Zimbabwe to help
reprimand the need for electricity. Delving right into the heart of this skill will help me bring
fresh ideas filled with ingenuity helping me see through the idea blooming within me to
construct a power source, a clean source for a town and in long run, perhaps a city then the entire
country. Zimbabwe is blessed with resources that could see lots of power plants up and running
powering the national grid. What we lack at the moment is knowledge of how to make use,
efficient use of these blessings. Learning from the world outside our borders would prove quite
insightful and there is a possibility of making long term relations that could prove vital to the
success of the rejuvenation needed by the Zimbabwean energy sector. With enough power
supply, the industry will find its feet again as this is one of the major needs to run any find of
business in the 21st century. A drive in the right direction will see lots of change occurring in the
country but it can only be done by individuals with the right tools, attitude and focus on all the
issues that need to be handled and tackled. Control engineering will give me the right tools to
know what exactly has to be how to do it how to better make use of the variables at my disposal
to ensure an efficient well-oiled working entity.
