Play this board game in groups of four. Cut out the spinner and stick a pencil through the
middle to make a dice. Each player also needs a pen, a piece of paper and a coin to use
as a counter.
The players spin the spinner and move along the board. The players write down each
word that they land on.
The object of the game is to combine the words to make sentences containing a verb in
the Past simple and a verb in the Past continuous with when or while, e.g. I was reading
a book when you arrived. or While Clara was waiting for Chris, it started to rain. You can
put the verbs you collect into the Past simple or the Past continuous. The first person to
use his or her words to make a correct sentence is the winner. You do not have to use all
the words you write down.
