Hi,
I'm having problems and have searched the forums and the internet in general, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I've bought an Xduoo X3 and followed the instructions here: http://xvtx.ru/rockbox/manual.htm to install Rockbox on it. I didn't understand what it meant by
"System folder .rockbox must be placed at the root of this memory card." though. I couldn't create a folder with a name beginning with a full stop, so I
ignored this part. Possibly a big mistake... I went to the options menu and selected "upgrade".

Now when I turn on the player I get the message "Loading firmware... Error: File not found."

I've turned the device back on while it was locked, to boot up the original firmware. However what do I need to do to get it running Rockbox? Any help will
be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Alex

The problem is that there is not yet a version of Rockbox written to run on this device, known at Rockbox as a "port." See
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/XDuooX3, where they report that they are just starting to work on one. Alas, all such efforts are done by volunteers, and it may
take many months -- actually, maybe years -- for the work to be done.

A summary of which devices the program runs on is available on their home page: http://www.rockbox.org/

I love Rockbox, and I am sorry it doesn't run on more devices, but this is the way of volunteer-based open-source programming projects.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Your problem is that there is not yet a version of Rockbox written to run on this device. Go to the Rockbox dot org website, and you will see on their home
page a list of devices for which they have written versions of the program, known as a "port." You can also enter Xduoo into a search box on the left (for
their "web pages," not their "flyspray"), and find that they have only just started work on a port to your device.

Rockbox is an open-source programming project done entirely by volunteers, so it may be months or years before the work is done for your device.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news; I am a lover and daily user of Rockbox myself.

I stand corrected. So there ARE other programmers besides those at the official site who are making Rockbox ports for additional devices. Good!

Thanks! It turns out the whole thing was caused by me not reading the installation instructions properly. Once I did so, it worked fine...

That's great to hear. Personally, I am a big fan of Rockbox for its versatility and ease of use.

Forget my the last post. Problem solved! [IMG]

In case this is helpful for others in same difficulty: DO NOT follow the manual procedure!!!... xvtx.ru/rockbox/manual.htm

manual installation steps:

1) Download bootloader (rockbox-bootloader-xxx.zip) and rockbox system’s archives (rockbox-full-xxx.zip);
2) Unpack rockbox-full-xxx.zip to the root of the micro SD-card. System folder .rockbox must be placed at the root of this memory card. Card must be formatted to FAT16 or FAT32. Filesystems ExFAT, NTFS,
EXT3/4 does not supported!
3) Install this SD- card to the X3 slot number 1;
4) Unpack the rockbox-bootloader-xxx.zip to the root of the C: logical disc of your PC Folder named xDuoo, must to be at the root of the disc like this: C:\xDuoo
5) Be sured that your X3 is totally charged. Turn it OFF and unplug the USB cable.
6) Run the script C:\xDuoo\Flash_Rockbox.bat (or C:\xDuoo\Flash_Stock.bat to return to the stock firmware);
7) Press and hold the button "OPTION" pressed;
8) Plug the USB cable connected to PC to X3 then release the button “OPTION”
9) Install the driver for JZ4760 USB Boot if you didn’t install it previously. It is available here: C:\xDuoo\Drivers;
10) The process of flashing must to begin. If it doesn’t start, unplug the USB cable and reset the player. Try flash it again (see prev. 5-8 points) The flashing lasts about 2-3 minutes.
11) After successful installation Rockbox will start automatically
12) Profit.

these manual installation steps crashed my X3 twice. I was fearful that the second crash could be fatal; I was saved by my sheer perseverance!!!

***

Be sure to follow the first set of instructions:

1) Download bootloader (update-to-rockbox-xxx.zip) and rockbox system’s archives (rockbox-full-xxx.zip);
2) Rename update-to-rockbox-xxx.zip to update.zip and write to the root of the micro SD-card without unpacking.
3) Unpack rockbox-full-xxx.zip to the root of the micro SD-card. System folder .rockbox must be placed at the root of this memory card. Card must be formatted to FAT16 or FAT32. Filesystems
ExFAT, NTFS, EXT3/4 does not supported!
4) Install this SD- card to the X3 slot number 1;
5) Be sured that your X3 is totally charged. Normally update your player. To do this, in the menu "Setting" select "Upgrade";
6) The process of flashing must to begin. After successful installation Rockbox will start automatically;
7) Profit.

To install a system update of rockbox firmware please:

1) Turn OFF the player
2) Download new system update file (rockbox-update-xxx.zip);
3) Unpack rockbox-update-xxx.zip to the root of micro SD card, just overwrite old system files with new ones.
4) Install the memory card to the slot number 1;
5) Turn X3 ON

There is a dual-boot system in the X3 player now which allowed you to run either rockbox or original firmware by your choose. It is simply to made:
1) Turn the X3 OFF;
2) To start Rockbox, just push ON button. To start original firmware turn the "HOLD/LOCK" switch ON;
3) Then push ON button;
4) After Xduoo LOGO appearance turn the "HOLD/LOCK" switch OFF;
5) Bingo!

Hello, another handy tip that I just discovered.

Quite a lot of my music is in ape format, but unfortunately Rockbox doesn't seem to want to play it! 8(
Not to worry!
If you switch the player off, then switch it back on with the lock switch on, it boots into the original software that does play ape files! 8)
This is my first post, so I thought I'd try and post something useful!
