Experiment No. 6
Aim: Network Design using Packet Tracer
Theory:
Packet Tracer is a cross-platform visual simulation tool designed by
Cisco Systems that allows user to create network topologies and
imitate modern computer networks. The software allows users to
simulate the configuration of Cisco routers and switches using a
simulated command line interface. Packet Tracer makes use of a drag
and drop user interface, allowing users to add and remove simulated
network devices as they see fit. The software is mainly focused
towards Certified Cisco Network Associate Academy students as an
educational tool for helping them learn fundamental CCNA concepts.
Previously students enrolled in a CCNA Academy program could
freely download and use the tool free of charge for educational use.

Steps to design network using Packet Tracer

Step 1: In this topology, Two 2960 series switches are used. Switch1
(Interface Gig 1/1) is connected with switch2 (Interface Gig 1/1) via
cross cable

Step 2: Switch1 has two PCs connected on interfaces Eth0/1 and

Eth0/2 via straight through cable. Same as switch1, Switch2 also has
two PCs connected on its interfaces Eth0/1 and Eth0/2.
Step 3: IP address is configured on all PCs PC0 (192.168.1.1/24), PC1
(192.168.1.2/24), PC2 (192.168.1.3/24), PC3 (192.168.1.4/24).
Step 4: Click on Switch1 and click CLI menu item and press Enter

Step 5: To confirm that the network works you can send packets
from PC0 to PC1 and PC1 to PC0. To do this you need to click the
packet icon (the envelope icon) from the menu on the right hand side
of the screen:

Now click on PC0 and PC1. At the bottom right hand of the screen
you should see a message box that says “Successful”.

Step 6: Now click on PC1 and PC3. At the bottom right hand of the
screen you should see a message box that says “Successful”.
Conclusion: Thus a successful connection is established between all
the PC’s in the network.
