COURSE CODE-COURSE NAME:214202 Dynamics CR:3-0

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Provide essentials to the basic principles of particle and rigid body kinematics and kinetics. To give the
ability to form dynamics related mathematical models (Equations of Motion) of engineering mechanisms
and machines (Structural Systems). To give the abilities of calculating the motion that results due to applied
forces and moments and calculating the forces and moments that are necessary to result in prescribed
motion characteristics.

PRE-REQUISITE: 114201Statics
CO-REQUISITE: Nil

TEXT AND MATERIALS:

Textbook:
1. Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics, 12th edition by Russel C. Hibbler
2. Engineering Mechanics Dynamics, 6th edition by J.L. Meriam and L.G. Kraige
Reference Material:
1. Vector Mechanics for Engineers by Beer & Johnston, 9th edition by McGraw-Hill

RELEVANT PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The course is designed so that students will achieve the PLOs:
1. PLO-01: Engineering Knowledge: An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and
engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex
engineering problems.
2. PLO-02: Problem Analysis: An ability to identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze
complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of
mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
3. PLO-03:  Design/Development of Solutions: An ability to design solutions for complex
engineering problems and design systems, components, or processes that meet specified needs
with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental
considerations
4. PLO-07: Environment and Sustainability: An ability to understand the impact of professional
engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and
need for sustainable development.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will demonstrate competency by being able to:
1. Students will be able to explain the fundamentals of dynamics and its applications

2. Students will be able to distinguish and explain the concepts of kinetics and kinematics of particles
and rigid body
3. Students will be able to apply the principles of force, impulse and momentum to develop solutions for
applied problems.
4. Students will be able to solve solutions to the problems to real time applications using dynamics for
the sustainability of the environment

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS:
This course is a pre-requisite for all advanced engineering subjects and serves as a link between physics
and engineering subjects. Fundamentals concepts delivered in this course will be used in many applied
courses used in dynamics system engineering and design. Students will be able to design dynamics of
systems like gears, pulleys, crank slider motion, relative motion between two parts etc.
