OBJECTIVE

To observe which food items are preferred by children and adults at Dreamworld buffet.

HYPOTHESIS/ PROPOSITION

Ho: There is no significant difference in the preference of the food items between children and
adults at Dreamworld buffet.

INTRODUCTION

DREAMWORLD resort is giving unlimited fun and entertainment from more than 10
years. It is one of the most prestigious clubs of the Pakistan owned . At the Resort, you
along with your family will be able to keep yourself busy and entertained for the whole day
long, starting on with your breakfast and ending up with dinner! For such an entertaining,
amusing and recreational distraction, you need…what? Well of course the Dream World
Family Resort! A place where you will assured for security, privacy and class of the people in
all respects. This matter is not to be worried about as entrance to the Resort is restricted for
members and their guests, exclusively. A person, who is able to satisfy all the aspects of the
membership criteria, as set by the selection committee, can become a member along with
his/her family. It is situated adjacent to Gulshan-e-Maymar, off main Super Highway. Just 20
minutes drive from the Civic Center, sprawling over about 150 acres of land the oasis of your

SAFFRON
Saffron is a buffet wonder for food lovers where one can find a perfect blend of food variety
from different cultures around the globe. Saffron can host a crowd of 3000 people at a time for a
buffet with a variety of 60 food items. Saffron has been hosting many theme nights which
include, but are not limited to following theme nights:

 Italian Cuisine

 Sea food night

 Arabian night
 Around the world

Saffron has a taste of all Pakistani and International cuisines under one roof. Offering BBQ,
vegetarian, non-vegetarian, various sweet dishes, drinks like lassie, cane juice, fresh lime etc.,
will satisfy any member. It is totally buffet, so you can really pig-out to any dish you want. Some
will just eat BBQ; others may try vegetarian, Chinese, Italian & Mexican dishes or combination
of all.
The place is operational only on weekends and since it is a buffet arrangement, it has a sort of a
limitation of timings. Adults are charged @ Rs.495/- Plus 17% GST & 1% FED. Kids from age
3 to 10 are charged @ Rs.345/- Plus 17% GST & 1% FED. The buffet is started on Saturdays
and Sundays from 7:00 p.m. till 12:00 pm. Reservation facilities are also given from members
along with guests.
I visit Dreamworld resort very rarely or most of the time when I am accompanied by some
guests. This time I visited Dreamworld for my assignment purpose on 21 st of November which
was Sunday at about 6:30 p.m. and went to Saffron as soon as it was opened for the observing
purpose.

OBSERVATION

Saffron is an open aired buffet restaurant with the placing of the dishes in the mid of the place
and seating arrangement all around its sides. On the extreme mid left and mid right of the
boundaries LIVE B.B.Q was being done, whereas on the mid right live Kat a Kat was also being
cooked. As I have already mentioned before that this buffet is a part of Dream world Resort and
is situated within the territory of DW therefore outside the boundaries of Saffron were families
sitting watching old Drama Serial on projector being place at the top of Kids playing area room.
The first family entered the Saffron boundaries after the payment of the bill at around 7:15. This
family does not have any Kids along with them. They took the seat next to the salad bar and start
their dinner with Soups and crackers. After around half three more families entered. One of them
was having three Kids along with them. One was a new born baby where as the other two were at
an age of around 8 and 10. The other family was having 18 members altogether and they were all
grown up. The third family was a couple without any kids.
The family along with the kids was made seated near the extreme left. These kids were forced by
their parents to have Soups first. The mother served them with the Soup and crackers. These kids
were least interested in taking Soup and were busy eating the crackers. Mean while 4 to 5
families entered Saffron, they were all adults and now the area was semi-half occupied.
The kids later took noodles, chicken wings and Chinese fried rice. From the desert bar they had
chocolate fudge cake, Jelly and chocolate mousse and in the drink they order soft drink and even
took vanilla ice-cream.
Till 8:45 p.m. there was no family accompanied with Kids or youngster and after that five
families came within different time duration with youngsters and children along with them.
Children were observed more attracted towards food like Crackers, Soups, Chicken Wings,
Chinese rice, Noodles, ice cream, cakes and jellies. Very few of the children were eating proper
food, like B.B.Q items & Puri Kachori Stuff and that was because they were pressurised by their
parents. Most of the children were seen ordering orange drink rather than colas or white drink.
Teenager and people in their early twenties were seen preferring all kind of food from fast food
to Chinese and B.B.Q. Many teenagers were eating Chinese food and were enjoying the live
cooking which was being done there. B.B.Q items were being loved by many of these people.
But then again, they were eating and enjoying variety of food almost from all the counters.

Females were seen attracted towards the Pani Puri and Chaat item more . Adults, being more
conscious about their eating habits, were observed eating healthy food items including desi food
like biryani or korma and also the B.B.Q items. Soups and other Chinese items were also being
eaten by them but most of them liked the continental food items. For them quality of the food
matters more than the taste. People aged more than 50 in this group were eating diet sweet dish
item. The restaurant caters well to these diet conscious people by providing variety of diet food
items and sweet dishes. They were ordering diet drinks or white drinks rather than colas and
other orange drinks, and were also drinking fresh lime and fresh juices. Families were not
leaving as soon as they were done with eating instead they were enjoying the atmosphere and
some of them were even ordering coffee and tea.

CONCLUSION
The observation concluded the following results:
 The children prefer more of light food and sweet items like noodles and ice-cream. They
do not like to eat proper healthy food.
 The teenagers and people in their early twenties like to eat all kinds of food. Chinese, fast
food Bar B Q, all were being preferred by them. They even like to eat sweet dishes. They
prefer colas over white or orange drink.
 The adults prefer good quality food including the continental food items, Bar B Q and
soup. They were mostly eating diet sweet dishes and were having diet drinks or white
drinks, fresh limes and tea, coffee after their dinner.
