The Burlington Police Department K9 Unit conducted a routine search of BHS on December 6, 2019. This was a planned exercise for the
local K9 Unit and part of routine emergency operations planning for the District. There were no specific threats or concerns that led to the
searches. It is our top priority to ensure that all who work and attend school in the Burlington Community School District have a safe, drug
free, and healthy environment in which to learn and grow. Conducting routine searches provides an opportunity for local law enforcement to
become more familiar with our school buildings and acts as a deterrent for students who may consider bringing illegal substances onto
school property. During the search, the building was placed on a lock down status, which is typical procedure for K9 searches.
