1. The following data shows the time, in hours, taken by a group of 20 travelers for a

journey.

(a) Find the median and the quartiles. [3 marks]
(b) Construct a boxplot for the data and identify possible outlier if it exists. Hence,
discuss the distribution. [4 marks]

2. (a) How many arrangements can be made by using all letters of the word
OMNIVOROUS? [2 marks]
(b) If two letters from the word OMNIVOROUS are used, find the number of
possible arrangements. [3 marks]
(c) How many different ways of arranging all the letters of the word VIRUS
Which begin with the letter I or U? [2 marks]

3 A tuition center offers two subjects, namely Mathematics and Accounting at


Pre-university level. A group of students are taking tuition in either Mathematics

or Accounting. It is known that of this group of students are boys. The probability

(a) Construct a tree diagram to illustrate all possible outcomes for the events.

(iii) who is taking tuition in mathematics is a girl. [3 marks]

5. At a private hospital, the number of patients visiting the hospital has a Poison
distribution with a mean of 7.5 patients in an hour.
(a) Find the probability that
(i) exactly 9 patients will visit the private hospital in an hour
[2 marks]
(ii) 5 to 14 patients will visit the private hospital in an hour
[2 marks]

(iii) more than 3 patients will visit the private hospital during a
20-minute interval. [ 3 marks]

(b) If Y is the number of patients visiting the private hospital between 1 p.m. and 5
p.m., calculate P(29  Y  32) .

2. The marks in a Mathematics test are normally distributed with mean 40 and standard
deviation 10.

(a) If the passing mark is 30, find the probability that a randomly selected student
