Advancements in the Field

The happiness felt when a direct action positively impacts another's life cannot be put into words. With my
constant eagerness for this feeling, I knew that a career in medicine was the path I need to take, especially when I
saw multiple members of my family pass away from unexplained heart attacks. The field is constantly being
improved to better serve diverse demographics of people with discoveries made through research. While we are still
struggling to unscramble the enigmas that are unexplored diseases and infections, unfortunately, with economic and
social barriers created in the postmodern era, such as restrictive legislation and lack of transportation, medicine is
not able to reach the people most in need. It is my goal to exponentially increase my impact in this field to sustain
my commitment to serving others and hopefully mankind.
With my developing interest in medicine, I have sought out extracurriculars to immerse myself in the
medical field such as holding a leadership position in HOSA and volunteering through Red Cross Club during my
sophomore, junior, and senior years. These activities acted as a catalyst into a prospective path for medicine. As my
passion for this field grew, I couldn’t sit still without trying to find ways to apply myself in patient care. I had been
waiting in anxious anticipation of my sixteenth birthday for months, as it was the day I'd finally be able to volunteer
at the hospital which I applied to as soon as I could. After a few short months, I was promoted to volunteer head
with my constant reassessment of how I could make this volunteer involvement more curated to my aspirations of
helping the community. With this experience, I was able to distinguish my interest in health-related research.
I desire to continue with the passions and proclivities that I have received through my experiences in
medicine because osteopathic care allows me to focus on the prevention of disease and work with natural healing
approaches that coincide with patient’s physical wellbeing. With my constant involvement in medicine, I am
intrigued by the unique, holistic principles of osteopathy as it parallels my proactive nature. Individuals in this field
need to be empathetic and compassionate towards their patients and also have to be fully committed to their
practice.
The quote I correlate with this potential career is “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations” by
anonymous. I realized early on that this career is very challenging and there will be many obstacles along the way.
By constantly reminding myself of my goals and actively trying to seek support through my peers with a similar
course load and career path, I’m sure I can work through any problems. I plan to give this path my full effort and
hardwork to hopefully achieve success. I hope to use my knowledge to continue finding satisfaction in the service of
others and becoming more than a liaison. From a medical standpoint, I will be in a position to make a large positive
impact on other people and offer them a better quality of life.
