Agriculture during British colonial period was stagnant due to:


● Land settlement

● Negligible use of fertilizers
● Commercialisation of agriculture

Industrial sector during British colonial period


● Systematic de- industrialisation is a term that describes the status of industrial sector
during British rule.
● Decay of world famous handicraft industries.
● The two fold motive behind systematic de-industrialisation: first to reduce India to the
status of exporters of raw material and second to turn India into a sprawling market
for the finished products of British industries.
● Few modern industries during second half of 19th century : cotton textile, jute textile
mills and Tata Iron and Steel Company .
● New industrial sector contributed very less to the gross domestic product of the
country.
