BSR553—DESIGN & REFURBISHMENT

TOPIC : HOW TO CONDUCT SITE ANALYSIS, CONDITION SURVEY & MEASURED DRAWINGS

SITE ANALYSIS
Process of evaluating a particular locations physical, mental and social characteristics with
the ambition of developing an architectural solution.
PURPOSE
• To provide a good quality living environment ( environmental friendly )
• To respect, acknowledge and improve the character of the area ( by not to disturb the ecosystem, biodiver-
sity & history of the places )
• To provide the basis for the design response.

WAYS TO CONDICT SITE ANALYSIS

Start with a site survey, documenting Includes habitable room windows Take photo or video of the site &
the physical features of the site and decks/balconies or private open space neighborhood context
surrounding areas on adjacent sites - Goodphotographic record can save
time because no need to return back

Each site requires its own or difference Photographs and sketches can be used During presentation, use photos as
investigation especially regarding the to communicate the ideas especially on Proof & supporting documents
methods the design stage

SITE ANALYSIS & REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS

IN RELATION TO THE SITE IN RELATION THE SURROUNDING AREA

 Orientation, direction and angle of slope  The location and use of surrounding buildings
 Trees and other significant vegetation
 The difference in levels between the site and surrounding
 Buildings properties
 Access points  Balconies, decks and habitable room windows for nearby
 Drainage & services properties
 Boundaries and setback lines  Solar access enjoyed by surrounding residents
 Any other notable features or characteristics of the site  Major & significant vegetation on surrounding properties
 The built form, scale and character or surrounding
and nearby development

DESIGN RESPONSE
- Explain how the development will relate to other dwellings on the site and to the existing neighbourhood character.

STEPS IN DEVELOPING DESIGN RESPONSE

1) Decide feaures of site advantages to which help enchance the development
2) Before start detailed drawing, discuss the proposed building envelope & the implications
3) Develop the detailed plans & take note regarding the implication from site analysis
4) Test the design response against the site analysis
