The cooling system function is to limit the maximum operating temperature of the various machine’s
fluids. It is monitored thermally and controlled electronically.
Each fluid flows in the fins of a separated cooling element. The fan produces the air current that flows
through the fins to cool the fluid depending on the fan speed and the outside air temperature.
The current flowing to the regulating solenoid valve Y347 controls the variable flow of the hydraulic
motor 3160 and thus the fan speed. This current varies depending on different parameters such as
the hydraulic oil temperature sent by sensor B8, the running of the air conditioning compressor...
The cooling air from the fan cools the following fluids:
– coolant of diesel engine
– charge air
– fuel
– hydraulic oil

– air-conditioning refrigerant

3.1 Diesel engine cooling circuit

The coolant flows through the diesel engine. It is pumped by the coolant pump attached to the engine
housing.

Maintenance

3.1.1 Small cooling circuit

Under a coolant temperature of 82°C, the thermostat valves in diesel engine remain closed. The
coolant does not flow through the fin cooler 2.
As a result, the cold diesel engine and heating circuit are heated up faster.

3.1.2 Large cooling circuit

From a coolant temperature of at least 82°C, the thermostat valves open and enable the coolant to
flow through the fin cooler 2 before returning to diesel engine.

3.2 Charge air cooling circuit

Charge air is fed from the turbocharger to the diesel engine through the fin cooler 1 where it is cooled.
(see Air filter and air lines: checking tightness and condition, in 030 Maintenance and inspection
schedule)

3.3 Hydraulic oil cooling circuit

Hydraulic oil coming from the control valve block 5100 flows through the fin cooler 3170 to be cooled
before returning to the hydraulic tank 1500.
(see Hydraulic cooling system, in 060 Description of the hydraulic system)

3.4 Air conditioning circuit

The refrigerant is pumped by the air conditioning compressor. It flows through the air conditioning
condenser 4 to be cooled before returning to the operator's cab.
(see 160 Operator’s cab / heating / air conditioning system)
