PATEROS CATHOLIC SCHOOL

Senior High School Department

F. Imson, San Pedro, Pateros, Metro Manila

April 19, 2020

Dear Senior High Teachers,

Greetings of Peace!

I hope everyone is having a safe stay in your respective houses. Due to the extended ECQ that we
are experiencing right now, I hope everyone understands that several significant changes would
occur for the next school year.

To begin with, let our mantra for the upcoming school year be “Ready for the New Normal”. This
signifies that we are ready to face a new set of challenges brought by the CoVid-19 pandemic.
According to Father Ordona, our school director, “New Normal” could mean any of the following:

1. A set of [proven and tested] response to the new situation;

2. Totally new set of actions and practices;
3. New set of actions and practices that must be blended with the old.

While the Director’s Council has not yet arrived with a concrete plan on how the new school year
would look like since the ECQ period is always tentative and DepEd has not yet mandated policies to
follow, we are envisioning the following scenarios:

1. That the start of the school year would either be in July or August;

2. That the mode of instruction be according to any of the following, depending on the state of
the situation:
a. Full on-line, non-contact method
b. Part on-line, part face-to-face interaction method (HYBRID LEARNING)
c. Normal and traditional method

3. That teachers must start RETOOLING: creating their own video tutorials, prepare Genyo
Learning Packages, find on-line assessment tools, and download videos and on-line
simulations for their topics. It is necessary for teachers to create modules that the students
can follow in learning their lessons (see attached format).

4. That class schedules and sectioning might fully deviate from the normal arrangement, i.e.
reduction of students in one section to maintain distancing. Though changes will be enforced,
rest assured that the teachers would be teaching with the same number of minimum teaching
hours (1440 minutes); only that the scheduling and classroom arrangement is different.
5. That some of the activities for the next school year have to be foregone; outside activities and
mass gatherings must still be avoided unless cure and vaccine for CoVid-19 have already been
developed.

I am fully aware that some students are asking you tons of questions since we did not have a proper
closure of the last school year. Let me shed some answers so that we will be having one statement
for all stakeholders.

1. Graduation is still on-hold since DepEd declared its suspension. However, much as we want
to make it grand, I guess the “ceremony”, if any, would be the most simple to date. With this
issue, we have to wait for the lifting of the ECQ and the subsequent DepEd directives.

2. Card Distribution Father mentioned that once the ECQ is lifted during the first week of May
(tentatively May 4), we can all go to school and finish computing for the grades. The first
week of May will be devoted to finishing all the paperwork, while the second week is for the
distribution and enrollment. I suggest that you ask your students to already submit all of
those pending requirements so that you can already finish computing for those who have
incomplete grades.

3. Enrollment for the next school year If the students do not have any back account, meaning
that they have fully paid the last school year, they can already enroll for the next school year
for as low as Php 2000 (but if they prefer to pay higher than that, they are most encouraged
to do so). They have to wait for our “Go” signal once the ECQ has been lifted. For those with
back accounts, however, they have to pay first their balances before they can enroll for the
next school year.

4. PEAC/ FAPE Vouchers PEAC/FAPE vouchers can only be used for BACK PAYMENTS and not
for advanced payments. While PEAC has not given the funds to us yet, we must answer those
asking students and parents that the government still has not given any; and during this
situation, we can also hope that much.

Despite this challenging times, I am still optimistic of the upcoming school year; consider SY 2020-
2021 as our transition year towards going fully digital: a 21 st Century school of tomorrow!

Rest assured that the school is thinking ahead- designing new curriculum, planning affordable tuition
fee schemes, upgrading and developing modern IT infrastructure- so that all the employees would
not feel any difference from the previous school years due to the existing crisis.

What we want you to do right now is to be safe at home, keep yourselves healthy, design and
construct learning packages, and study on-line and modular delivery for the sake of being the best
that you can be in this chosen vocation. I trust everyone that we will face the upcoming school year
with the same level of enthusiasm and grit. May God bless us all!

Sincerely yours,
[sgnd.]

MODULAR APPROACH ELEMENTS

A. Flipped Classroom via Genyo

1. Teachers are tasked to design learning packages to be uploaded in the Diwa Genyo
Platform. In a month, at least eight (8) learning packages are required to submit online.

2. At least, the following are the contents of the learning package:

a. Opening Prayer: could be a video or a document
b. Activities for Motivation; could be any of the following:
i. Video
ii. Audio
iii. Audio-Video
iv. Games
c. Powerpoint Presentation must contain, but not limited to, the following:
i. Title of the Lesson
ii. Objectives of the Lesson (refer to DepEd Guide)
iii. Discussion (emphasize concepts and terminologies)
iv. Higher Order Thinking Questions
v. Reflection Questions
vi. Generalizations
vii. Enduring Understanding
d. Video Tutorials and Simulations related to the given topic
i. Preferred tutorial: teacher-prepared to be personalized
e. Supplementary Materials; any of the following:
i. Websites for Further Readings
ii. Attachments such as documents and PDFs
iii. Activity Sheets
f. Assessment and Evaluation: any of the given below
i. Formative Assessment via games
ii. Formative Assessment via documents
iii. Formative Assessment via activities

3. Teachers are to check the level of completion and submission daily to assess students’
participation.

B. Assessment via Genyo

1. Teachers are tasked to design QUIZZES that would be recorded for the sake of students’
grades.
2. Quizzes must be comprised of the following:
a. 10-item multiple choice
b. 10-item identification
c. 10-item true or false
3. The quiz must be time-pressured, about 15 to 40 minutes depending on the degree of
difficulty. Scores and correct answers must not be shown to keep the sanctity of the exam.

C. Test Review Day via Genyo

1. Teachers are tasked to design Test Review Quiz: a collection of the previously given
quizzes that will not come out in the monthly written summative assessment.
2. The quiz must be time-pressured, about 15 to 40 minutes depending on the degree of
difficulty. Scores and correct answers must be shown for the students to know their level
of performance.

D. Monthly Written Summative Test via Genyo

1. The Monthly Written Summative Test is similar to Preliminary and Periodic Examinations.
2. The Summative Test must be comprised of the following:
a. 15-item multiple choice
b. 10-item identification
c. 10-item true or false
d. 15-item reading comprehension test
3. The Summative Test must be time-pressured: exactly one hour to be taken. Scores and
correct answers must not be shown to keep the sanctity of the exam.

E. Performance Tasks

1. To reduce possible burden to the students, the Performance Tasks will be made inter-
disciplinary and webbed. This means that a certain PeTa will be for three or more subjects.
Webbing the PeTa will be done by the Principal together with the Subject Area
Coordinators.
2. The following are the possible choices for PeTa of the students:
a. Research Paper
b. Blog, Essays, Articles, Movie Reviews and Reaction Papers
c. Short Video, Vlog
d. Picture of their output
e. Web Page
3. In giving the PeTa, the GRASP format must be shown to the students. A complete rubrics
must be included for them to know how they will be graded.
4. Submission of the PeTA will be announced later.
