Learning Technology

This course is one of the first courses that I have taken in my college career that makes me feel

prepared for my future career. I am just now being able to dip my toes into classes that are fully

relevant to my career as an educator. Before college, I was not expecting having to take a course

that teaches me all about the different tools in technology. I was able to create so many cool

projects and I will use so many of these tools when I become a teacher and even in my other

college courses. We had a lot of objectives in the beginning of the course and I feel like I was

able to feel confident in all the objectives by the end of this course.

One objective that I feel was the most important was, “Approach new computer-based tasks

more easily and with greater confidence.” I must admit that I am not a very tech-savvy person,

but I know that with times changing and the career I want to pursue, I must become tech-savvy.

This course made me feel more confident in my skills and creating engaging presentations. I was

a little worried before the course started that it would be extremely difficult to keep up with all of

these different projects, but the instruction was phenomenal. This course will be a resource for

me to look back on in the future.

In almost every classroom nowadays technology is there. Not all students know how to use

computers or certain programs. It will be my job as a teacher to integrate this in the classroom

and be able to teach my students how to use it. With this being said, I feel confident that the

objective, “Discuss the functions of computers in classrooms, businesses, homes, and other

environments.” was thoroughly achieved. I believe that I now can teach students how to use their

computers and help them with problems they may have. I would not say that I am a technology

professional now, but I do know enough to be helpful to my students.

Another key objective that I think is very important for me as teacher is, “Locate, open, and use

the following software applications at an intermediate level: e-mail, word processing,

spreadsheet, presentation, web page development, internet search strategies, and Canvas course

management system.” All of these are necessary for teachers. Not only did I learn how to use all

of those software applications, but I was able to learn shortcuts and tricks in each of them. One

of my favorite things I learned about was all the shortcuts in Word Excel. I used to think that

Excel is difficult to use and navigate but it really is not with practice.

In conclusion, I am extremely glad that I took this course and I got so much out of it. I think that

it should stay a requirement in the teacher’s college. It also is just a fun class to take regardless of

requirements and I will use everything I learned in this course in the future. There were times

where I was frustrated with my work and I couldn’t get things to work but in the end, I was

always so proud of the work I created.
