• The difference between the present perfect and the

SIMPLE PRESENT:
• It’s used to talk about habits or routines.
• Personal information: where you work, what you
study, where you live, etc.
• For opinions: I love changua, I have lechona, etc.
• Truths or facts: Spiders are frigthening.,
Changua is disgusting. Coronavirus controls the
planet.
S I M P L E PA S T:
• We use this grammar to express actions that
occurred in past and are complete. THESE
ACTIONS FINISHED ALREADY.
• We also use it for past experiences, past
activities or things that you did.
• Comí, leí, fui, viví, visité, viajé, etc.
• Be careful with -ed endings for pronunciation.
PA S T C O N T I N U O U S A N D S I M P L E PA S T:

• We combine these two tenses when we want to tell an

anecdote, a story or a tale.
• We use the past continuous to ESTABLISH THE
CONTEXT of the story. This is the action that was
happening before the interruption.
• And we use the simple past TO EXPRESS THE ACTION
THAT INTERRUPTED the first one.
• I was chopping onions in my kitchen WHEN I cut myself.
S I M P L E PA S T A N D P R E S E N T P E R F E C T:

• BOTH TENSES TALK ABOUT PAST.

• The simple past happened in A SPECIFIC
MOMENT FROM THE PAST (yesterday, 2 days
before, last year, a month ago, etc)
• The present perfect happened in A NON SPECIFIC
TIME. (I don’t remember when it happened, or it’s
not convenient to mention it.) - (Already, yet, never,
always, before, since, ever, etc.)
PRESENT PERFECT AND PRESENT PERFECT
CONTINUOUS:

• WE USE BOTH TO CONNECT ACTIONS THAT BEGAN IN THE

PAST BUT STILL HAPPEN TODAY. (I’ve worked in CCA for 10
years. / I’ve been working in CCA for 10 years.)
• We use the present perfect to talk about actions that are
complete and occurred in the past.
• We use the present perfect continuous to express actions that
happened recently and that we have evidence of. (Have you
been crying? How do you know? Because your eyes look swollen
and red.) (The guys has been running because he looks sweaty.)
PRESENT CONTINUOUS:

• We use this tense to express actions that

are happening this year, this month, this
week, today or in this exact moment.
• The maximum period of time is ONE YEAR.
• Because more than one year is a ROUTINE.
