Section 1
Introduction

1.1 Introduction

The Opteva® enhanced note acceptor (ENA) (Figure 1-1) is designed to accept
either a single bank note or stacks of bank notes in different orientations, then
identifies and validates them individually. The notes are held in escrow until
the transaction is complete. Notes are then moved to deposited note storage in
the terminal safe.

1.2 Information in this Manual

This manual provides specific servicing and maintenance procedures for the
ENA. For information on procedures and servicing other areas within the
terminal itself, refer to the appropriate terminal operating guide.

1.3 Safety Precautions

Strictly observe the following safety precautions when performing maintenance


on the ENA. By following these precautions, you can reduce the risk of
equipment damage, severe personal injury, or death.

WARNING

You must observe the following precautions when servicing


the ENA to avoid risk of death, severe personal injury, or
equipment damage:

• Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can become


caught in the equipment.

• Use caution to prevent long hair from getting caught in


the equipment.

• Never insert screwdrivers, pens, or other instruments


into the equipment (unless you are expressly instructed to
do so in this document). Severe bodily injury, death from
electrical shock, or equipment damage can result.

The ENA may have any of the warning or caution labels shown below. Strictly
observe the following safety concerns to reduce the risk of severe personal
injury, or death.

Maintenance

2.1 Prerequisite Information

To perform the procedures described in this section, you must know:

• How to open the terminal (refer to the appropriate terminal operating guide
for this information).

• How to place the terminal in the appropriate mode to perform a particular


task (for additional information, refer to the documentation for your terminal
control software).

• How to remove power from (power down) the terminal (refer to the
appropriate terminal operating guide, as well as independent network and
software documentation, for this information).

• How to access and utilize the appropriate diagnostics.

• How to return the terminal to the appropriate mode for consumer operation
(for additional information, refer to the documentation for your terminal
control software).

2.2 General Maintenance

This section describes the following procedures for preventing undue wear and
equipment fault of the ENA:

• Enhanced note acceptor maintenance procedures (Section 2.3)


• ENA stacking cassette module maintenance procedures (Section 2.4)
• Cassette maintenance procedures (Section 2.5)

WARNING

The following precautions must be adhered to when servicing


the ENA to avoid risk of equipment damage or severe bodily
injury or death from electrical shock:

• Remove loose clothing or jewelry that can become


jammed in the equipment.

• Never jam screwdrivers, pens, or other instruments into


the ENA.

2.3 Enhanced Note Acceptor Module Maintenance Procedures

This section describes the following procedures for maintaining the ENA:

• Clearing a jam (Section 2.3.2)


• Unload escrow (Section 2.3.5)
• Cleaning sensors (Section 2.3.12)

2.3.1 Touch Points

The ENA has numbered blue touch points to help access the subassemblies.
Labels for the touch points are cut into the metal (Figure 2-1).

2.3.2 Clearing a Jam

The following seven areas of the ENA should be checked for media jams.

• Turn assembly (Section 2.3.3)


• Customer interface (Section 2.3.4)
• Escrow assembly (Section 2.3.5)
• Module bin assembly (Section 2.3.6)
• Transport assembly (Section 2.3.7)
• Upper align assembly (Section 2.3.8)
• Validator assembly (Section 2.3.9)

2.3.3 Turn Assembly

Perform the following steps to clear a jam in the turn assembly.

1. Release the turn assembly latch at touch point E1 and lift up the turn
assembly at touch point E2 (Figure 2-2).

2. Use the kick stand at touch point E4 to support the turn assembly while
the turn assembly is in the open position.

3. Look for jammed media in the paper path of the turn assembly (Figure 2-2
and Figure 2-3).

4. Check the belts (Figure 2-3) at the rear of the turn assembly for jammed
media.

5. Release the turn assembly kick stand and lower the turn assembly.

WARNING

The turn assembly is very heavy. Make sure the turn

2.3.4 Customer Interface Assembly

Perform the following steps to clear a jam at the customer interface.

1. Release the turn assembly latch at touch point E1 and lift up the turn
assembly at touch point E2 (Figure 2-2).

WARNING

The turn assembly is very heavy. Make sure the turn


assembly is securely supported in the open position.

2. Use the kick stand at touch point E4 to support the turn assembly while
the turn assembly is in the open position.

3. Lift the customer interface upper platen assembly at touch point E3


(Figure 2-4) and remove any jammed media that is present.

4. Check the customer interface push plates (Figure 2-4) underneath the
customer interface upper platen assembly and remove any media that is
present.

5. Close the customer interface upper platen assembly.

WARNING

The turn assembly is very heavy. Make sure the turn


assembly is gently lowered into the closed position.

6. Close the turn assembly.

2.3.5 Escrow Assembly

Perform the following steps to clear a jam in the escrow assembly.

1. Slide the ENA module out of the terminal.

2. Open the turn assembly (Section 2.3.3).

WARNING

The turn assembly is very heavy. Make sure the turn


assembly is securely supported in the open position.

NOTE

Make sure the ENA module is fully extended out of


the terminal, otherwise the unload escrow button will
not operate.

3. Check for jams in the escrow gate assembly (Figure 2-5).

4. Press the unload escrow button (Figure 2-6).

5. Collect the media as it is presented.

6. Look at the escrow roll. Make sure the escrow roll is empty.

7. If there is any media jammed or media remaining that cannot be removed


or ejected using the unload escrow button, contact your Diebold service
representative.

8. Close the turn assembly (Section 2.3.3).

The turn assembly is very heavy. Make sure the turn


assembly is gently lowered into the closed position.

2.3.6 Module Bin Assembly

The module bin assembly collects counterfeit notes for countries other than the
United States. Counterfeit United States notes are returned to the customer
through the customer interface assembly. Perform the following steps to remove
media from the module bin assembly.

1. Unlock the module bin using the key (Figure 2-7).

2. Pull down the module bin door at touch point E8.

3. Remove the counterfeit notes from the bin.

4. Close and lock the bin door.

5. Open the turn assembly (Section 2.3.3).

WARNING

The turn assembly is very heavy. Make sure the turn


assembly is securely supported in the open position.

6. Check for jammed media in the module bin gate (Figure 2-8)

7. Close the turn assembly (Section 2.3.3).

2.3.7 Vertical Transport Assembly

Perform the following steps to clear a jam in the vertical transport assembly.

1. Squeeze the blue tab at touch point E7 and open the vertical transport
platen assembly (Figure 2-8).

2. Remove any jammed media in the paper path.

3. Check the vertical gate assembly for jammed media.

4. Close the vertical transport platen assembly.

2.3.8 Align Assembly

Perform the following steps to clear a jam in the align assembly.

1. Push back the blue align latch at touch point E5 and lift up the upper
align assembly (Figure 2-9).

2. Remove any jammed media in the paper path.

2.3.9 Validator Assembly

Perform the following steps to clear a jam in the validator assembly.

1. Use the blue tab at touch point E6 to unlatch and open the validator
assembly (Figure 2-10).

2. Check for jammed media in the paper path.

3. Close the validator assembly.

2.3.10 Enhanced Note Acceptor Ready To Go LEDs

While the ENA operates, the LEDs on the upper transport assembly CCA
illuminate in certain patterns, indicating the function or failure of the assembly.
Refer to Figure 2-11 and Table 2-1 for these specific LED locations and functions.

The green LEDS will be on and the remaining LEDs will be off if there are no
faults when the unit is operating. If the green LEDS are off and any of the other
LEDs go on, then either there is a note jam or there is a hardware problem. If
there is a hardware problem contact your Diebold service representative.

2.3.11 Enhanced Note Acceptor Stacking Cassette Ready To Go LEDs

2.3.12 Cleaning Sensors

The sensors in the following five areas of the ENA module should be checked
and cleaned to remove dust and debris.

• Customer interface (Section 2.3.13)


• Turn assembly (Section 2.3.14)
• Upper align assembly (Section 2.3.15)
• Validator assembly (Section 2.3.16)
• Vertical transport assembly (Section 2.3.17)

To clean dust from the sensors, use Diebold dust remover spray
(00-050499-000C). The spray is available from DieboldDirect refer to Section 3.

2.3.13 Customer Interface Sensors

1. Open the turn assembly (Section 2.3.3).

2.3.15 Align Sensors

2.4 ENA Stacking Cassette Module Maintenance Procedures

Follow your institution's procedures when accessing the ATM safe for any
purpose, such as maintenance to be performed by the operator, and when
returning the terminal to full operation. You must be able to access the inside of
the safe to service the ENA stacking cassette.

2.4.1 Drive Train

Perform the following steps to clear jammed media from the drive train area.

1. To gain access to the stacking cassette module, push the bottom of the
blue release latch (Figure 2-21).

2. Pull the blue stacking cassette module handle to extend the slides to their
fully extended position.

3. Remove any stacking cassette(s) from the module (Section 2.5.1).

4. Rotate the drive train by turning the blue knob. Remove any jammed
media (Figure 2-18).

5. Reinsert any stacking cassette(s) into the module (Section 2.5.3)

1. To gain access to the stacking cassette module, push the bottom of the
blue release latch (Figure 2-21).

2. Pull the blue stacking cassette module handle to extend the slides to their
fully extended position.

3. Remove any stacking cassette(s) from the module (Section 2.5.1).

4. Use the blue tab (Figure 2-19) to unlatch and open the retract bin door.

2.4.3 Chest Transport

Perform the following steps to clear jammed media from the chest transport.

1. To gain access to the stacking cassette module, push the bottom of the
blue release latch (Figure 2-21).

2. Pull the blue stacking cassette module handle to extend the slides to
their fully extended position, to move the stacking cassette module out
of the chest.

3. Remove any jammed media from the chest transport (Figure 2-20).

4. Slide the stacking cassette module back into the chest, using the blue
handle.

5. Slide out the enhanced note acceptor to clear any jammed notes from the
top of the chest transport.

2.5 Cassette Maintenance Procedures

2.5.1 Removing the Stacking Cassette

Perform the following steps to remove the stacking cassette.

1. To gain access to the stacking cassette module, push the bottom of the
blue release latch (Figure 2-21).

2. Pull the blue stacking cassette module handle to extend the slides to their
fully extended position.

3. Press the cassette release lever to undock the cassette from the stacking
cassette module frame. The green LED on the drive train will turn off
(Figure 2-21).

3. Remove the stacking cassette from the module (Section 2.5.1).

4. Lay the cassette on a flat surface so that the door is horizontal


(Figure 2-22).

push plate to the bottom of the cassette (Figure 2-22).

7. Remove the media from the cassette.

raise the push plate to the top of the cassette.

9. Close the cassette door, depending on the type of cassette.

the cassette.

• Use a service key to lock the secure cassette.

10. Reinsert the stacking cassette into the module (Section 2.5.3).

2.5.3 Replacing a Stacking Cassette

Perform the following steps to replace the stacking cassette.

1. Observe the label for loading the cassette. Align the color-coded labels
on the cassette with the corresponding color bars on the frame of the
module (Figure 2-25).

WARNING

The stack wheel coupling intermittently rotates a few


degrees automatically whenever the module is not
docked and a cassette is not installed. The rotation
helps the cassette to dock more reliably. The stack
wheel coupling is moving part that can snag or pull
clothing, hair, skin, or jewelry into the mechanism.
Keep clothing, hair, skin, and jewelry out of the
coupling.

3. The module generates four beep tones to indicate that the cassette is
correctly seated. The green LED will turn on.

4. Slide the stacking cassette module back into the chest. The terminal
generates four beep tones to indicate that the stacking cassette module
has been properly docked.

5. The terminal performs an auto-initialization routine to verify that the


stacking cassette module functions correctly.

2.5.4 Cassette

1. Remove the stacking cassette(s) from the module (Section 2.5.1).

2. Remove media from the stacking cassette if necessary (Section 2.5.2)
