 A Narrative Report on the
First Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

Earthquake is one of the natural disaster that caused major damaged to human lives. No technology
nor devices has yet been invented to detect the incoming earthquake so at least the people would know. It
is an event that no one can tell when and where to happen. With this situation, the people should always be
ready for the said disaster.
Having a year round quarterly Earthquake Drill is a big help in the preparedness and readiness in
such natural disaster. The school conducted the drill on February 21, 2019 at exactly 2:00 in the afternoon
in accordance with the DepEd memorandum/circular.
Prior to the Earthquake Drill, Students of Grade 12 students conducted the “Orientation on What to
do During The Earthquake Drill’ to the all the students of Anuling National High School. This orientation
was done on February 20, 2019. The purpose of the orientation is to disseminate information on the things
that should be done during the actual conduct of Earthquake Drill.
Some of the observations during the conduct of the actual drill in are indicated below:
a. The drill started 2:00 in the afternoon, February 21, 2019.
b. The siren is loud enough to be heard by all the drill participants.
c. The drill participants practiced the “Duck, Cover and Hold” technique during the alarm phase.
d. The drill participants followed their designated routes to evacuation area.
e. The drill participants conducted the head- count after gathering in the open ground
f. The drill lasted 5 minutes and 30 seconds starting from the ringing of the siren until the students reached
the designated evacuation area.
g. No students were recorded playing, running or pushing during the evacuation phase.
h. The number of participants observed are 375 students and 19 teaching and non-teaching staff.

Also, the school coordinated with the Mendez Bureau of Fire Protection to have a one day
orientation and Seminar on Basic Life Support and First Aid Safety to the selected students of Anuling
National High School. The said orientation and seminar was conducted on March 1, 2019 that was held at
the Senior High School Building. The students also saw the actual conduct of some of the First Aid
measures, carrying techniques and others.
