Testimonial of Ice ExPerience

The Department of the Environment of the Government of Canada has issued Permit No
l4l5O0Z to MS Expedition pursuant to Section 2l of the Antarctic Environment Protection Act
(AEPA).

paragraph 7.6 of the permit requires that the Vessel retains qualified Ice Navigators on board.

The qualifications and requirements for'lce Navigator' are stated in Section 26 of the Canadian
'Arctic Shipping Pollution Prevention Regulation' (ASPPR).

Specifically in Paragraph 3 the regulation states that the lce Navigator on a ship shall

- be qualified to act as master or person in charge of the deck watch in accordance with
regulations made pursuant to the Canada Shipping Act; and
- have served on u ihip in the capacity of master, or person in charge of the deck watch for
a total period of at least 50 days, of which 30 days must have been served in Arctic
waters while the ship was in ice conditions that required ..... it to make maneuvers to
avoid concentrations of ice that might have endangered the ship.
