5.4 THEORY:

Flourscent Tube

Compact Efficiency Lamps

Mercury Vapour Lamps

Sodium Vapour Lamps

5.5 PROCEDURE:
(Draw labeled circuit diagram on paper and Arrange all the Equipments & material required for the
practical.)
STEP 1. Make the connection as shown in the connection diagram. Connect the Wattmeter,
Ammeter & Voltmeter correctly as of their polarities and properly choose the current and voltage
ranges of the wattmeter.
STEP 2. Switch on the 1-Φ AC supply.
STEP 3. Respectively change/use various lamps.
STEP 4. Note down the readings of the voltmeter, ammeter and the Wattmeter’s
STEP 5. Switch off the supply, disconnect the circuit safely.
STEP 6. Collect rest all data from the internet, requires in observation table.

(Get the connections checked by the lab Faculty/Technician before switch on the supply.)

5.7 RESULT:
 By the above Experiment, we successfully compare the performance of various lamps used in
domestic purpose i.e. Mercury Vapour lamp, Sodium Vapour lamp, Filament lamp, CFL & LED
lights.

5.8 PRECAUTIONS:

 Before switching on the AC supply, the zero readings of the voltmeter and ammeters should be
checked
 Meters of proper range and type should be selected.
 The readings in the ammeter should not exceed the current ratings of the wattmeters and load
used.
 Connections should be tight and correct.
