Exercise #4:

Density and Dimensional Analysis

I. Answer the following questions and problems. Show your solutions for any problems for full
credit.

1. What is the volume, in cubic meters, of a rectangular solid that is 0.25 m long,
6.1 m wide, and 4.9 m high?

2. Find the density of a material, given that a 5.30 g sample occupies 3.24 mL.

3. What is the mass of a sample of material that has a volume of 55.1 cm3 and a density of 6.72
g/cm3?

4. A sample of a substance that has a density of 0.824 g/mL has a mass of 0.451 g.
Calculate the volume of the sample.

5. Determine the volume of a cylinder with a diameter of 3.15 cm and a height of

15.5 cm.

II. Perform the following conversions. Show all work for full credit.

Useful Conversion Factors:

1000 mL = 1 L 100 cm = 1 m 2.54 cm = 1inch
5280 ft = 1mile 1 ounce = 28.35 g 2.2 lb = 1 kg
1 lb = 454 g 1 fluid oz = 28.41 g

1. 55.0 mL to liters __________

2. 25 miles to feet __________
3. 25 cm to meters __________
4. 454 g to ounces __________
5. 32.5 g to fluid ounces __________
