Lost dollar analysis Щедрина 452
Lost dollar analysis Щедрина 452
Idea: if you want a debt back you should ask about it directly, you should speak out
your mind
Time and space: USA, as it is told about the American dollar in the text.
Compositional design:
I believe that the narration is from the 1st person (author is the main character and the
speaker).
As for the types of narration, we can see some examples of direct speech and
narrative proper6 inner monologues
Characters: we can see 2 main characters in the story - narrator and his friend.
Narrator is obviously psychotic and nervous person, he is also a miser, and Todd (his
friend) is easy going person who doesn’t care about little things.
Vocabulary: neutral.
Stylistic devices
I found a few stylistic devices in this text. First of all I guess there is a repetition “he
owes me a dollar” and this repetition is throughout the text. Also there are lots of
graphons here. “ we can see the words “know”, “there”, also “it is possible indeed”
and “a back to honesty”. Also I found a rhetorical question here “ you would think a
thing like that would have reminded him wouldn’t you?” And a metaphor “this side
of the grave”.
