French Language 2 (FREN2051): Grammar revision test 6

Translate sentences (a) to (j) into French (5 marks per sentence):

a) Oz said that if James wanted to find out about wine, Bordeaux would be a good
place to start.

b) As soon as they arrived in Bordeaux they went to visit the magnificent chateau of
Pichon-Longueville.

c) “What does terroir mean?” James asked. “It’s a word which is impossible to
translate,” replied Oz.

d) “It seems to be very easy to make wine,” said James, “but beer is much more
reliable.”

e) For over 2,000 years, the Rhône valley has been producing a huge variety of wines.
f) “When you go to Châteauneuf-du-Pape you will discover that it’s not a chateau, it’s
a village.”

g) He thought that the wines which he was offered in Burgundy were the best he had
ever drunk.

h) “It’s cold, wet and windy in Alsace but there are some famous vineyards  in the
region.”

i) Oz did not think that it would be easy to introduce James to the pleasures of
champagne.

j) But, as soon as he had drunk a few glasses of wine, he was transformed into a poet
and a philosopher.
