Unit-6:

Molecular biology of various stresses

abiotic stresses like drought, salt, heavy metals and temperature, and
6 biotic stresses like bacterial, fungal and viral diseases. Signal % 7
transduction and its molecular basis, molecular mechanism of plant
hormone action mitochondrial control of fertility, structure, organization
and regulation of nuclear gene concerning storage proteins and starch
synthesis.

Biotechnology and Bioethics:

The expanding scope of ethics from biomedical practice to

nature, fear of unknown, unequal distribution of risks and benefits of
biotechnology, bioethics vs. business ethics, ethical dimensions of IPR,
technology transfer and otherglobal biotech issues.

Biosafety concepts and issues:

Rational vs. subjective perceptions of risks and benefits, relationship


between risk, hazard, exposure and safeguards, biotechnology and
biosafety concerns at the level of individuals, institutions, society,
region, country and the world. Biosafety in the laboratory institution:
