The 160" anniversary of the church was held in 1956,
with Rev. Lawrence Himmelman, President of the Pittsburgh
Synod, as speaker.
During 1957, repairs and improvements were made
to the church basement, which is used as Sunday School
rooms. Twelve tables and a carriage rack were purchased.
A small altar cross and accessories were given by Doris
McVay Cogley and Kathryn Clark Fiscus. Also at this time,
members volunteered their time to paint the walls and floor.
Dr. Rice retired from the ministry in 1958. Following
his retirement, Rev. Charles E. Miller served the
congregation from 1959 until June, 1961. During his
pastorate, an organ was installed, a movable cupboard for
robes and supplies was built, a projector was purchased,
150 new hymnals were bought, Luther League began, and
Christ and Emmanuel churches severed their relationship
with Grace Church of Manorville Parish in 1961.
Following Pastor Miller’s resignation, Pastor Herbert
G. Lindewurth served the congregation from 1961 until
1966. It was at this time that Christ and Emmanuel churches
purchased the present parsonage in the Bloom Plan at a cost
of $14,000.
During the term of service of Pastor Lindewurth, the
following was accomplished: Vacation Church School was
started for the first time in Christ Church, an outdoor light
was installed in the parking lot, four small road markers
