VITAL INFORMATION
Subject(s) Language Arts (English)

Topic/Unit of Study & Unit: Technology and the Industrial Revolution Literature
Time Allotment
Lesson: Imagery

Time: 25 minutes

Grade/Level Grade 5

Objective Students will be able to identify imagery within a narrative, at least

twice per paragraph.

Students will be able to create their own example of imagery for

sound and pictures using descriptive words and phrases about
classroom objects.

Students will be able to analyze imagery aby listening to othe student

examples and drawing the described object with the cues given.

Summary To begin, we will discuss what the definition of imagery is, including
giving examples of descriptive words to use in a sentence that
includes imagery. The class will read the narrative out loud,
identifying words and phrases that include imagery of sound and
visuals in the first paragraph. Afterwards, they will work in groups to
identify at least 2 more examples per paragraph to share and
highlight with the class. After working with the narrative, students
will then create one example of imagery on their own, describing an
item they select within the classroom. They will take these examples,
read them to one classmate, and the classmate will try to draw the
item given only the imagery in the sentence. They will switch roles,
trying to take turns drawing and guessing the item from the
classroom until both partners have gone one to two times (as time
allows). We will share examples in the classroom, help one another if
anything can be added or excluded and reviewing the material by
making a small list of words and phrases that work well. The class will
end with a short Kahoot! of true and false questions to identify
sentences with imagery.
