Presentazione ERMES

About ERMES
ERMES was founded in 1982 with the goal of operating as an OEM in the design and
manufacture of a complete range of CCTV equipment to market under the brand of well-known
companies. ERMES produced a complete range of equipment that included simple video
switcher, large management systems up to 250 cameras, multiplexers and digital recorders.

Today remain a trace of that period in the range of

high quality enclosures that ERMES continues to
produce successfully.

The ERMES offer includes:

aluminium housings with and without
protected cable passage

stainless steel housings for marine use and in
environments with corrosive atmosphere

water and air-cooled housings for high
temperature environments.

ATEX housings for environments subject to
the risk of bursting

The new strategy
In the early 2000's, the more and more massive presence of products coming from the Far East
and the consequent impoverishment of the CCTV market, pushed ERMES to progressively
abandon this activity, taking advantage of the experience of its engineers in a completely different
area.
After a careful study of the opportunities offered by the
market, ERMES identified the production of apparatuses
for the audio communications (intercom, public address,
emergency call boxes) as a very interesting area able to
grow significantly in the future.

ERMES decided to face this market no longer as an OEM but

with its own brand and, moreover, introducing some significant
innovations compared to the technology used by its
competitors at that time, such as the use of the Ethernet
network to connect equipment and the adoption of the Peer-
To-Peer protocol.
Today ERMES is a landmark in the market of audio communication systems on data networks
and it is able to provide its customers with a complete and reliable range of products.

The mission
Today ERMES designs, manufactures and
distributes apparatuses that allow to create
audio communication systems, also with video
support, which are characterized by the use of
the EHERNET network, also shared with other
systems, for the connection of the
apparatuses.
The products are grouped into 3 families, each of which is intended for a specific field
of application:
InterLAN
This is a family of apparatuses for intercom systems that allows to have talks
conversation between two or more intercom stations
SoundLAN
This is a family of apparatuses that allow to install a public address systems
suitable to spread by loudspeakers announcements, music or other types of audio.
HelpLAN
Emergency call boxes which can satisfy both security as well as safety features

The characteristics common to all products
All the systems made by ERMES use apparatuses that have a few essential features in
common:
They are "IP native" because have an onboard IP interface and use only a data
network to exchange both control signals and the audio.
They comply with the TCP/IP standard and, therefore, you can install them on any
ETHERNET network that already exists even if it is shared with other systems.
They use a P2P protocol that does not require network servers, management
software or other types of central units, thus ensuring high system reliability.
They can operate both locally using a LAN and geographically using a WAN

Introduction to audio systems Over IP
The audio systems produced by ERMES
needs only the ETHERNET network to
connect the apparatuses thanks the use of the
IP protocol in order to control the functions of
the system and to transmit the the voice
(Voice Over IP).

Each apparatus is IP native and it is

(LAN or WAN) because it is able to manage Y

directly the network connection.

Moreover these apparatuses communicate

directly with each other because they use a
Peer-To-Peer protocol and therefore do not
require servers on which to install control
software or any other type of central unit.

The advantages of the IP connection
The use of the IP technique allows to integrate
the system realized with these apparatuses
over an existing LAN without the necessity of

costs, a easy installation and and a simple way
to upgrade the system to satisfy future needs.

Each apparatus requires only the connection to

the data network and to the power supply, but
many devices can be connected only with the
data cable, as they have POE power supply. after

Finally, thanks to the use of the LAN and of the L

IP protocol it is possible to expand the system Y
in every moment simply by connecting to the
LAN a new apparatus with a new IP address.

How the P2P system works
To clarify as work the P2P systems it is enough to consider what happens when you
push the call button on an intercom in order to call another intercom.

First of all it is necessary to keep in mind that during the initial configuration each
intercom is assigned a fixed IP address and that, as a consequence, each intercom
is perfectly identified on the network by its IP address.

In addition, during the initial programming phase, to each call button of the intercoms
is associated the IP address of the intercom that you wish to call by pressing that
button (in the following drawing, the IP address of the right intercom is linked to the
button 1 of the left intercom)

If this button is pressed, since ERMES intercoms are IP native and manage the data
network directly, the intercom will send the call directly to the IP address of the other
intercom establishing the connection.

The advantages of Over IP connection
The use of the TCP/IP protocol allows the use of existing ETHERNET networks,
sharing them with other systems without the need to lay complex and expensive
dedicated cable networks.
The systems can operate both locally using a LAN and geographically using a WAN
The P2P protocol, thanks to the absence of a central management unit, ensures
high reliability of the system as there are no elements, such as the server, whose
malfunction could stop the proper functioning of the entire system.
The system can be easily expanded by adding new
devices with a new IP address.
The system can have one or more control stations that
can be made up of either hardware stand-alone units
or software units by installing a software on a PCs.
The control station on a PC do not operate as server
but it works like any other apparatus with the
advantage of a more friendly to use interface.

The Intercom Systems
Intercom systems allow you to establish a two-way hands-free conversation between
two apparatuses installed in different locations easily, quickly and reliably.
The intercoms can be installed both in a restricted area (a factory, a building) as well as
in a large geographic area (the different premises of a company in different cities
connected in WAN).
An Intercom system differs from a telephone system in that it:
It is only used by those who work within the organization where it is installed.
It is easy to use as the connection between the units is made at the push of a button.
It is fast because the connection between the devices does not pass through a
switchboard.
It is reliable because the efficiency of individual equipment and the communication
network are constantly monitored to detect any anomaly in real time generating an
alarm

Selective intercoms
Selective Intercom systems take advantage of the IP address :192.168.0.3
fact that, thanks to the use of the P2P protocol,
any Intercom can make a direct call to another
device by activating a command, for example by
pressing a call button or typing a code on a
numeric keypad.

Each intercom is usually equipped with a push-to-talk
button that, if kept pressed, allows you to make an
announcement on all the horn speakers connected to the
individual intercoms and 3 other buttons that allow you to
insert the intercom on as many lines of omnibus
communication.
The procedure for establishing contact between two
users takes place in two successive steps.
First the user who starts the procedure will have to make
an announcement on the sound system (PTT button) to
warn the second user to go to the nearest intercom
indicating which omnibus conversation line you want to
use.
Subsequently, the two users must press the indicated
conversation line onto their respective intercoms so that
they can get in touch immediately.

The families of the InterLAN intercoms
InterLAN intercoms are divided into families that differ in the type of industrialization
and therefore in the environment where they are to be installed.
All intercoms, however, regardless of the family to which they belong, use the same
communication protocol and can therefore be freely mixed in the construction of a
system according to actual needs.
InterLAN-E : Intercom for standard environments
InterLAN-EO : Desk intercom
InterLAN-EC : intercom for prisons
InterLAN-EM : Intercoms for operating theatres and sterile
environments
InterLAN-EI : Intercoms for industrial environments

The Public Address Systems
SoundLAN is a system that allows you to create public address systems, paging
systems or sound alarm systems easily, quickly and with low installation costs.
The basic apparatuses used for these systems are:

The microphone consoles that allow you to select
the zones where you wish to spread the
announcement. These consoles are IP native
and POE powered.

The amplified gateway that receive the data
stream from the ETHERNET network and
generate a 100 V audio signal suitable to drive
directly the loudspeakers. These gateways are IP
native and powered by 24Vdc

One or more loudspeakers with 100V transformer
that must be connected to the output of the audio
gateway. You can connect how many
loudspeakers you want but the sum of the power
of the loudspeakers cannot exceed the maximum
power that the audio gateway can supply.

The Emergency call systems
The help points Over IP of the HelpLAN family, thanks to their flexibility, can meet the
needs that arise in the most diverse areas of application respecting under different
circumstances not only the functional aspects but also the regulatory aspects.
In the creation of such devices is paid particular attention to putting into practice all the
measures that can facilitate the use to people with different types of disabilities that
often need more than others to use such devices.

CityHELP is the emergency pillar that includes

all the possible options and that lends itself to
being used in multiple contexts where there are
no specific regulatory requirements or particular
environmental characteristics.
Typically it is installed in areas of high public
attendance, such as airports, stations, squares
and public parks, where it can be easily identified
thanks to its color and height.

HelpLAN - Specific purpose equipment
ERMES produces different versions of help point that can be used to meet special
requirements, either because they comply with specific regulatory requirements or
because their industrialisation makes them suitable for installation in critical
environmental conditions.
