Dear Hiring Manager,

My name is Allison Hayes, and I am responding to the Residency RN August 2020 application featured on your website. I
am currently a fourth semester nursing student at the University of Arizona and will be graduating in May 2020 with a
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. I would love the opportunity to begin my career at your facility and I believe that
my experiences make me the ideal candidate for the position.

The rigorous BSN program has given me a strong medical knowledge base and helped me to develop my critical thinking,
collaboration, and therapeutic communication skills. The College of Nursing at the University of Arizona places an
emphasis on providing integrative and holistic treatment to patients. This is a lesson I plan to utilize throughout my entire
nursing career. Nurses have the unique privilege of providing impactful, compassionate care for individuals and families
during pivotal moments of their lives. As a nurse, I will ensure each patient receives quality care that is personalized for
their unique needs.

I am particularly interested in critical care; however I am very open to a variety of residency positions. This semester, I
completed a five-week preceptorship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona on their medical and trauma intensive
care units. While there, I learned how to effectively manage my responsibilities and assume the care of two acutely ill
patients with rapidly changing conditions. I learned how to prioritize care based on patient needs and effectively manage
my day. I also practiced a variety of skills like ventilator management, titrating medications, dressing changes, NG, IV
and Foley insertions, drawing labs from arterial and central lines, working with donor network, providing end of life care,
participating in codes, and charting in the electronic medical record. My preceptorship allowed me to apply what I learned
in the classroom to real world situations. It gave me a newfound confidence in my clinical skills and abilities, and I am
hopeful that I can carry this experience with me as a nurse at your facility.

At the end of my time at St. Joseph’s Hospital, my preceptor commented that I am observant, retain information well and
am eager to learn; all qualities necessary in a fast-paced, unpredictable setting. I thrive in challenging environments where
I can collaborate with others and continue to expand my knowledge base. With that being said, I am extremely excited to
begin my nursing career and feel that your facility would be the perfect place to start. I would greatly appreciate an
opportunity to discuss my qualifications with you and can be reached at 602-300-8419 or ahayes1@email.arizona.edu.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Allison Hayes
