Helicobacter pylori is a Gram-negative bacillus, a spiral with multiple
flagella that prefers microaerophilic environment. H. pylori Life in an unique
environment, under mucus acidic hull wall. This bacterium has a urease enzyme
that can break the ureum into an alkaline ammonia, so that the environment is
created that allows this bacteria to survive in the stomach (Rani and Fauzi, 2009).
It has been estimated at this time about 50% of the world population infected with
H. pylori. In the human body, the existence of H. pylory may cause some chronic
diseases such as peptic ulcers, gastritis, and also gastric cancer. Hence WHO
categorizes this bacterium as a group I human carcinogen. Furthermore, some
research on epidemiology reports that H. pylori is a major factor in the cause of
gastric cancer (de martel et al., 2013; Guggenheim and Shah, 2013). Antibiotic is
one of the ways to shut down bacteria. However, in some patients, antibiotic can
cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and headaches. It is required natural
remedy that is able to inhibit and shut down H. Pylori growth to avoid any side
effects due to antibiotics. Mango leaves and guava leaves are plants that are easily
found in Indonesia. It contains an active compound that acts as an antibacterial
such as alkaloid that interacts with cell walls and binds to bacterial DNA, causing
the failure of protein synthesis, a flavonoids that works to damage cell walls and
disabling enzyme work, saponins that serves to increase the permeability of cell
membranes, tannins that work in damaging cell membranes, steroids that are
iterable with Mg ions2 + and Ca2 + that exist in cells so that it can Improve cell
permeability, and triterpenoid that serves to bind with Porin and form a strong
polymer resulting in a breakdown of porin.
