Thank God, I thank God Almighty for all his grace so that I can finish writing
the engineering idea titled "Improve English Speaking Skills By Following Seminar
Public Speaking" is well and on time.
I would also like to thank as much for the help, guidance and direction of the
various parties. On this occasion I would like to thank profusely to the lecturer of the
course "ENGLISH" that has guided me in making this idea engineering.
I realize that in writing engineered this idea still has a lot of mistakes both in
terms of language and composition writing. By because of that, I really expect
criticism and suggestions from readers very constructive for improvement for the

PART I
PRELIMINARY
1.1 Background
English is the international language. By mastering English well, then we will be
able to communicate with other nations in the world. In addition, we will be able to
add insight and our knowledge for the betterment of our nation and state, because we
will be able to read literature in English, listen to radio broadcasts abroad, as well as
menontong films of science others. Thus, in the end we can master the
knowledge-knowledge in all fields.

1.2 Identification of problems


In this paper we summarize some of which will be discussed, namely:
1. What is Past Perfect Tense?
2. Any formula of the past perfect tense?
3. What is the Past Perfect Continuous Tense?
4. Any formula of past perfect continuous?

1.3 Aim
From the identification of the above problems, the authors certainly aimed to
clarify or explain these points, according to the knowledge we have, both printed
sources and from our teachers. Hopefully everything benefit us. If there are errors or
words written in this paper, the authors apologize profusely.

DISCUSSION
2.1 Past Perfect Tense
Past Perfect Tense Present Perfect Tense similar to differ only in due course.
Present Perfect Tense about an event or events that DONE (perfect, perfect) at this
time, for example: She has just gone (He just left).
Whereas Past Perfect Tense is the past tense (Past) of the Present Perfect Tense,
as it is called Past Perfect Tense, equally Perfectnya! If the Present Perfect Tense
using the formula S + Have / has + V3, the Past Perfect Tense using the past tense of
Has / has that "HAD".

2.2 Formulas Past Perfect Tense


Positive : S + had + V3
Negative : S + had + not + V3
Ask : Had + S + V3
Past Perfect Tense is often used with the other sentences in the form of the past
tense (Past Tense) are connecting it with conjunctions such as When (when), After
(after). To emphasize that Perfectnya (finally) it was in the past.
Sample sentence:
Ø Past Perfect Tense in the positive
Formula: S + had + V3
1.I had gone When He arrived at my home
"I had gone" was Past Perfect Tense, with subjectnya is I. See there "had" it,
and the verb form of the three (V3) is gone. According the formula S + had + V3.
Sentences in comparison to the past tense: "When He arrived at my home".
2.I had written three Articles when you visited my blog for the first time
So Past Perfect Tense is about "Already, the past". Present Perfect Tense of
"Already now". The formula is similar, because both Perfect. Every Perfect
definitely use the verb form of to-3 either in word or in the main work of his
auxiliary verb.
Ø Past Perfect Tense In Negative Sentences
Formula: S + had + not + V3

We just added the word after HAD NO. As the following examples:
· I had not studied hard, so I did not make good result
· You had not told me that, that's why I did not understand
Ø Past Perfect Tense In Sentence Ratings
We just changed the words to put the word HAD before the subject:
The formula is: Had + S + V3
For example:
- Had You studied hard my friend?
- Had You told me about this problem?
2.3 Function Past Perfect Tense

In addition to a subordinate conjunction, can also be usedprepositionprior to and before
(before) which is a synonym.

Whenhe Came last night, the cake had run out. (When he came last night, the cake was
gone.)

The student had gotten a verbal warningbeforehis parents were called. (The student has
received a verbal warning before her parents got a call.)

I had already eaten breakfast by the time he picked me up. (I have breakfast when she
picked.)

Prior to the proclamation, Indonesia had been colonized by Japan for 3 years. (Before the
proclamation, Indonesia has been occupied by Japan for 3 years.)

2 Past perfect tenseto show how often something happened in the past. Time expression
(time information) is often used that phrase adverbial of number. Here are some examples.
 twice / two times / three times + before + simple past tense / participle (phrase):
Twice before getting married (twice before getting married), two times before they got
married (twice before they married), three times before I read his review (three times
before I read his review)

 every day / every two days / every other day until 2012(Every day / every two days
until the year 2012)
 every summer until 2000(Every summer until 2000)

I had read the book three times before I read his review. (I've read the book three times
before I read his review.)

They had met twice before married. (They had met twice before getting married.)

Yulia had been to the gym every two days until 2012. (Yulia been going to the gym every
other day until 2012.)

4 Past perfect tenseto express the hope or dream that is not accomplished

if + past perfect tense + would / should / could / Might + have + past participle

If you had remembered to invite me, I would have your Attended party. (If you remember
to invite me, I will be present at the party.)

Rina would've been the same level with me if she had studied harder. (Rina will feel on the
same level with me if he's studying harder.)

2.4 Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Past perfect continuous tense is a verb form used to express an action (with a
specific time duration) has been completed at some point in time in the future
lalu.Pola sentence (formula) Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Past perfect continuous tense is formed with the auxiliary verb had and been and
present participle. In general, past perfect continuous tense occurs only in the form of
dynamic action or an action verb, not stative verb because generally only dynamic
verb that has a continuous shape.

2.5 Formula-formula Past Perfect Continuous Tense


a. Past Perfect Tense in the Verbal Sentence Patterns
1. Verbal formula:
(+) S + had + been + V-ing + Object / adverb / Complement
(-) S + had + not + been + V-ing + Object / adverb / Complement
(?) Had + S + been + V-ing + Object / adverb / Complement
2. Example Sentences Verbal Past Perfect Continuous Tense
- EXAMPLE 1:
(+) Isna had been sleeping for five hours before Her father went to work. (-) Isna had
not been sleeping for five hours before Her father went to work. (?) Had she been
sleeping for five hours before her father went to work?
- EXAMPLE 2:
(+) I had been waiting for 20 Minutes before the bus Came.
(-) He had not been leaving the chair since I sat next to him.
(?) Had you been singing all time since you were in Bathroom?
- EXAMPLE 3:
I had been reading the novel for five days. (I've read it for 5 days).
b. Past Perfect Tense in Nominal Sentence Patterns
Specialized in nominal terms, past perfect continuous tense patterns back to the past
perfect tense form, namely as follows:
1. Nominal formula:
(+) S + Had + Been + Being + Adjective / adverb / Noun
(-) S + Had + Not + Been + Being + Adjective / adverb / Noun

(?) Had + S + Been + Being + Adjective / adverb / noun?
2. Example Sentences Nominal Past Perfect Continuous Tense
- EXAMPLE 1:
(+) I had been being a character modeling since 2010.
(-) I had not been being a character modeling since 2010.
(?) Had you been being a character modeling since 2010?
- EXAMPLE 2:
(+) I had been being in Jakarta for 3 years before Jokowi Became the Govenor. (-)
Listen! I had not been being jealous when you went to the party with that girl.
(?) Had you been being ill since three days ago?
- EXAMPLE 3
She had been out for days. (She had to stop working for a few days).

2.5 Use Functions Continuous Tense Past Perfect


Actually, in the sense of the past perfect continuous tense in the above we can
conclude one of the functions of the use of the past perfect continuous tense is:
1. To declare the activities or events that have occurred and still occur before the
other activities in the light terjadi.- I had been working hard all day yesterday. -
Somebody had smoking in the room. There was a smell of cigarettes. - They had
been playing football. They looked very tired.
2. In addition, the past perfect continuous tense is also used to denote activities that
occur in the lamp that is temporary (temporary) - I had been watching TV for 2
hours before my mom came back home. - She had been waiting there since you
went inside the shop. - He had been smoking for 30 years.
3. Signs Time (Time Signal) which is used in Past Perfect Tense Continouse are:
When = when
After = after
For = for
Since = since

3.1 Conclusion
From the discussion above authors concluded that we can know how to use
the phrase How can Past Perfect Tense Continouse true, with those that have
ditentukan.Past Continouse Perfect Tense is usually used to describe a job,
actions, or events that occur constantly in the past and the event is happening (in
progress) before the other events that happened in the past. Past Perfect Tense
Continouse can also be used to express events that happened a couple of times
during the sign lalu.Biasanya time (time signal) which is used in Past Perfect
Tense Continouse are: When, After, For and Since. arrived. Past Perfect Tense is
often used with the other sentences in the form of the past tense (Past Tense) are
connecting it with conjunctions such as When (when), After (after). To
emphasize that Perfectnya (finally) it was in the past.

3.2 Suggestion
The author realizes that the writer is still far from perfect future, the author
will focus and details in describing the materials regarding the tense and
examples. As our teacher candidates must detail to explain the formulas that
exist within each division of tenses that the students who listened to us more
understanding. We must also often provide an example sentence to the students.
