Analysis and Interpretation

Used as visuals when
presenting data obtained from
a Survey/Questionnaire
Tables and Figures (Charts and Graphs)
Tables – identify exact values
Essential Parts of a Table
Table no. and Title of the table

Base: Who answered the

question? Choices:
1. All respondents Table 4.4 Educational Attainment of Shampoo Users
2. Female respondents
3. Male respondents Total Male Female
Base: All Respondents (100) (40) (60)
# % # % # %
High School 2 2 - - 2 3
Bachelor's Degree 92 92 40 100 52 87
Answer choices Master's Degree 5 5 - - 5 8
PhD 1 1 - - 1 2

Total Column should come first,

followed by Male, then Female.

# is frequency – actual number of

responses
% - computed percentage
Chart and graphs illustrate relationship among
items. There are appropriate charts depending on
what you would like to highlight

DATA ANALYSIS AND
INTERPRETATION
ANALYSIS
 Summarizing of trends and patterns
observed in the data
 Review of major differentials
 Computation of indexes which are used in
determining relationships among variables
in a study
Analysis or write-up should be
presented before the table or graph.

Do not begin a sentence with a number.

Analyze the data in the total column

first, mentioning the highest mention
(percent), the next two or three and
then the lowest percent.

Use the figures in the percent column,

not the frequencies (numbers).
ANALYSIS

INTERPRETATION

Analyze the columns for male and

female, y stating if there are significant
differences (more than 7%) in the
responses of the male and female
respondents

If there are no significant differences in

the responses of the male and female
respondents, you can say there are no
significant differences in the responses of
the male and female respondents on
(variables).
INTERPRETATION
 Uses the results of data analysis to make
inferences relevant to the research
questions
 To draw conclusions about these questions
 Seeks a broader meaning of the research
relations obtained as well as their
implications
 Thus linking to other relevant available
knowledge
Researchers may use the following phrases
in interpreting data:

1. Perhaps this is due to the fact that…

2. This is probably so because…
3. This can be attributed to the fact that…
4. This can be explained…
5. It can be inferred from the data that…
