Children’s wear
The needs of children change constantly as they grow from infancy to adolescence. These nneeds
are reflected in the different kinds of clothing available in the various size ranges from infants’ wear
to toddlers’ wear to preschoolers’ wear, from girls’ wear and boys’ wear through subteen and prep
wear.

Parents may be especially aware of the styling and construction that are unique to children’s
clothing- the ways in which this clothing differs from clothing for adults. Because children often play
hard, they need sturdy, well-constructed, good-quality clothes. Comfort is also important. And from
an early age, children are fashion conscious. They are often in the store at the time their clothes are
purchased, know what they want, and express their wishes. Today, they are exposed to advertising
on television, on radio and in the print media.

Introduction to Infants’ wear

Infants’ clothing reflects the infant’s primary clothing needs: warmth, comfort and cleanliness.
Garments should be made of fabrics that let moisture evaporate.

Clothing should be roomy with plenty of room for diapers but not too bulky. Babies are most
comfortable in clothes that are soft and supple. They do not usually like clothes that must be pulled
over their heads, so infants’ clothing often has zippered, snapped, or buttoned neck openings. Since
infants grow quickly, sales people should advise customers to purchase only what is needed for the
current season.

The layette
A collection of the articles needed by each individual baby is called a layette. It includes clothing and
non-clothing items for an infant’s wardrobe, nursery, bathing, feeding and bedding needs.

Jumpsuit
It is one of the most popular items of infants’ wear. It comes in different weights, depending on the
season, and may have a hood for cool and cold weather. For comfort jumpsuits are made of a
stretch yarn, often polyester or nylon. One size could fit a baby from birth until the baby is a few
months old.

Coverall
It is a gament that covers most of the baby’s body. It is styled like the coveralls that automotive
mechanics wear.

Overalls
These are pants with attached bibs and straps over the shoulder. Overalls usually have snap crotches
and inseams to make changind diapers easier.

Shirts
For newborns babies these usually have front openings and tie or snap fastenings. For babies over 6
months old, they usually slip over the head and have large necklines or snap closures.

Nightgowns
Nightgowns extend from the neck to just below the feet. The gown may have mitten sleeves that flip
over the hands like pockets for warmth and a drawstring hem.

Sleeping bags
Also called blanket sleepers, they are warmer than nightgowns. They are usually made of brushed
knit, with a bag bottom, shirt top and zipper closing.

Buntings
These are one-piece large envelopes with attached hoods. The snow suit, which has arms and legs
may have bootee feet and extra long sleeves that may be pulled down as mittens.

Sweater sets
It consists of a cap, sweater, and booties.
Sacque sets
Are made up of a jacket, snap-fastened pants with elastisized waist and legs, a bonnet or cap and
booties.

Kimono
A loose fitting garment with raglan sleeves and open down the front.

Creeper
A two-piece creeper is a short or long pant with overall top and snap crotch that is often matched to
a shirt.

Fabrics
Clothing for infants must be warm, comfortable, and easy to keep clean. Knitted fabrics are good
choices since they provide warmth as well as ventilation. Snowsuits or buntings are made of smooth
nylon with quilted lining or acrylic fleece with acrylic trimming. Some common fabrics found in
infants’ wear are:

 Cotton: The most common fabric in infant clothes, cotton is soft and absorbent and gentle
on a baby's skin. It is available in an organic version and will shrink up to 10% upon the first
wash and dry cycle if you use heat.
 Cotton/polyester blends: A blend that dries quickly, resists wrinkling and is typically less
expensive than infant clothes made of a 100% natural fibre. This blend is easy to care for and
doesn't shrink, making it a popular choice among busy parents.
 Cotton/spandex blend: For the ultimate in comfort, a cotton/spandex blend is where it's at.
Stretchable, this material moves with your baby, which is why it is found in tights and baby
legwarmers. It is also easy to care for.
 Fleece: Warm and fuzzy, fleece is often found in baby outerwear and is available in a variety
of weights. Great for layering, it's good for in-between seasons. Fleece dries quickly, is
moisture-wicking and is a vegan alternative to wool. Also, it's virtually stain-proof and super
easy to care for, just toss it in the wash with like colors and you're set.
 Cashmere: A luxury textile, cashmere can be found in high-end designer infant clothes.
 Bamboo: An all-natural fabric, bamboo is becoming an increasingly popular choice for baby
clothes. Thermal-regulating, it will adjust with your baby's body temperature and is great for
layering. It has a host of other fantastic selling points including being hypo-allergenic and
anti-bacterial; right along with 100% cotton, this is my favorite fabric for baby and infant
clothes.
Sizes
It is important to bear in mind that infants have large heads and big waists. It is necessary to project
the size of the child, when buying in advance. The heights and weight given in size charts are only
average and individual babies will vary from them.

Babies generally wear infant sizes from the time they are born till the time they start walking.

There are two methods of sizing infants’ clothing-

Infant size by age

Disney
About:
Disney fashion relies on the popular Disney theme to sell its baby products. Nearly everyone knows
about classic characters of Disney cartoons such as Mickey Mouse, Goofy or Donald Duck. They
became the part of childhood for many generations of kids already. That why nostalgia also
contributes to sales amount. Parents like to see their kids dressed up in the cartoon characters from
their childhood.

Along with popularity, Disney fashion, as an established brand also promises quality. No matter how
often the clothes are washed colors remain unchanged and do not fade away. One more important
factor is the convenience for the baby clothing. Use of the best natural material will keep your little
ones warm and comfortable. The construction of clothing will give children freedom to enjoy.
Freedom of movement contributes to your kid’s development and it will make your baby happy.
