12 STEM Major is Next Student Council Prexy

Presidency is a position that transcends mere administrative office, it is a role that is not defined
by intellectual capacity nor popularity but of moral leadership. Elections for the Student Council Board
of Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion Mandaue for the school year of 2019 to 2020 served a true race
as the students’ interests were dispensed between the ABOG party and GOLD party. The presidential
position however served much uproar as the two candidates namely Kyla Gabuya and Joshua Nino Art
Cocjin appealed with their distinct platforms and campaigns. A veristic photo finish election as the
students anticipated for the new leaders of the student body.

The student council is filled with new faces for the school year, considering the first-time
running elected president is Joshua Cocjin from the ABOG Party, and other first timers from the same
party such as Sean Liboon, who was elected Treasurer; Miguel Manatad and Jeanjer Banquiao, who are
both elected as the SHS Representatives; they are accompanied by experienced student leaders as well,
as the elected Vice-President Airam Limatog (SHS), Bridgette Mantayabas (Elem), with the exception of
Marc Bangcoy (JHS), who is a first-time runner. Another consecutively elected officer is John Jacot, who
has been in service for five years. Other officers include the elected representatives, Claire Mayol and
Jane Miasco for Junior High School; and Fiona Lim, and Rica Estepa for the Elementary.

There is much to expect from this year’s incumbent officers, as the diversity revels within the
various personas and leadership styles they manifest. All we can do as the student body, is wait for their
words to turn into actions, making a school year of change.
